[2024] Thorpe Park: Hyperia - Mack Hypercoaster

The likes of Kingda Ka, Oblivion and Stealth do one trick but do them well. You go on them knowing you're going on for the drop or the launch if that's not your thing, you don't need to bother going on.

But this coaster looks like a Swarm 2 to me. I've never felt as short changed on any coaster as I did the first time I went on the Swarm, it was all the more frustrating because I was enjoying it - then it just kind of ended at what felt like the half way point. If you look at it's layout top down it even looks like there's a whole section missing by the lake.

I think the most disappointing thing of all is the speed at which it will probably be going when it slams into the brakes. Other than bragging rights, what's the point in going 236ft high if you don't bother taking advantage of the speed you gain from dropping a train from such a height?

You are correct, but that is completely irrelevant to the point being made here. The point being that there is a large section of un used land that could be used, does not matter why it is un used, just that it is unused.

Same goes for Wicker Man, we have a large section of land the Flume used that Wicker Man does not. The fact it is un used because it is protected is completely mute and irrelevant in this point. The parallels can be drawn that both of these coasters do not use up as much land as the ride that was there previously.

In Wicker Man's case, that had no impact on ride experience, the ride was (edit, IS!) excellent.

Then on the back of that, the point I was then trying to make, was that newer rides do not always have to use all the space the ride on the land used before to be good, history has shown us this.

Hope that makes sense, nested points within points.
I'm not sure you do get the point being made. Wicker Man was never mentioned in my original post because:
A) The reason for not re-using the woodland Flume site was specified in the attractions proposal.
B) The space left unused is accessible from other locations and not blocked by the construction of Wicker Man. If the land was to be used in future there are many opportunities for what can go there.

That second point was mainly what I was trying to highlight. There is unused land behind this coaster that once the ride is built will be blocked from the main park and not usable again. It seems odd that this ride (which has a similar footprint to loggers Leap) would be built over the main Canada Creek area instead. Why not build over just the flumes site and leave space in the Creek for a future ride?

@Tim i thought exactly the same - a huge chunk of land is now not accessible for future development- seems odd to me

My brain is screaming at me that this will end up being a Gerstlauer Infinity. It's the small airtime hill at the end or the ride that looks exactly the same as Karnan's ending, minus the indoor section.

Can someone please do a mock up of this as an Infinity. With Karnan or Gold Rush trains.

Drove down the M3 this morning en route to Kingston and this coaster is gonna look absolutely huge. Stealth is actually very subtle on the skyline and you wouldn't think it's a 200ft coaster, but this will really stand out next to Saw and Colossus.

Another thing I noticed is that I think we overestimate the size of that area. At least from my perspective you assume there's a lot of space because Loggers was such a long ride but in reality it's actually a very small footprint to work within.

Actually come to think of it, has there been an details oh Europa's Big Dipper. This could potentially be an updated Big Dipper project. I would be very happy with that, definitely want to see more Mack Big Dippers cropping up.

I guess there is nothing stopping this from being a BigDipper seating config but with more rows of cars. That would make this rather more interesting!

Oh gosh, just imagine experiencing some of those elements on the outside (Wing) seats!:D

Would be very Thorpe to build a new coaster then choose a train type that reduces the throughput considerably.

Not a lot of MCBRs on those plans though so a Big Dipper seems unlikely. However... it IS Thorpe...

Unless it is a longer Big Dipper train like @Rob suggested.

To be honest I wouldn't be at all surprised if this has Big dipper style wing seats. That extra bit of marketing for the park. I imagine Mack could extend the Big Dipper trains without much issue.

They have a wing coaster over the other side of the park. One that was deemed a bit of a failure from a marketing perspective.

I am not sure they would go there again?
Yeah I somehow forgot about Swarm when writing my post. I don't think marketing would really care as they appear to be building one at chessington. Also the winged seats on a Big dipper are very different to those on B&M wing coaster. It still think it's possible but considering Swarm I'd say it's slightly less likely.

To be fair, the Big Dipper, while so far just being sold as a compact coaster, is also just a design solution to do 4 across trains without necessitating a wider track design. Wide track = more steel = more cost. I can see why Merlin would avoid this and it allows Mack to remain competitively priced. I wouldn’t be surprised if it had a longer Big Dipper style train similar to Skyrush at HP

They haven't given much away in the two online consultations today, they have clearly learned from the Chessington one. Although it's many of the same consultants involved, many said nothing or virtually nothing - but potentially too much was said last time.

The Turkey ride comparison is has been revised to "an international location". The images also showed the spaghetti track outlines on all angles, not the track detail as per some on the website.

Gerstlauer seems like it could potentially be a large elephant in the room to me, but who knows.
