Your Top Ten Coasters

Right, this is probably a little bit of a guess as it is impossible to separate some of these coasters!

1. Apollo's Chariot, BGW - great fun, loads of airtime and an awesome first drop. Also intense in places. A top thrill coaster.

2. El Toro, SFGA - a coaster that makes you go WOW! Incredible speed, airtime and thrills. On the back row, this is a beast!

3. Intimidator 305, Kings Dominion - this is just so fast and intense and gives you a real adrenaline rush. Another WOW coaster!

4. Kingda Ka, SFGA - up in forth purely for the speed of it, it is something else.

5. Blue Fire, Europa Park - the definition of fun. I loved this after riding it back in April, it lived up to all the hype and is probably the most re-ridable coaster I've ever ridden. Looks stunning as well!

6. Oz'Iris, Parc Asterix - definitely the best B&M Invert I've ridden, the first drop on the back row is unbelievable and all round this is a top coaster!

7. Manta, SeaWorld Orlando - previously my number 1 coaster, I fell in love with this at the time back in October 2009.

8. Alpengiest, BGW - another fantastic B&M Invert, the first drop on this is also very good as you would expect with it being the biggest on at inverted coaster.

9. Oblivion, Alton Towers - yes I prefer Oblivion to Nemmy, just! It's a thrill that still gets me despite over 100 rides!

10. Nemesis, Alton Towers - a fantastic coaster that I feel is ever so slightly overrated, but still top class.

If you ask me again next week, this order may be different. The order may then be different the week after that too! :p

:)

2.oblivion (Alton towers)

7. G-force (Drayton manor)

I keep coming back and wanting to post in here... But I just can't decide on a proper list! It's just too damn hard! I've not even been on that many coasters, but my God, so many of the ones I have been on are just AMAZING!!!! :p

1) Nemesis: Perfect coaster really
2) EGF: Absolutely adore this coaster.
3) Grand Nash: It hurts but i love it
4) Oz'Iris: As much as i love Rob and Russell i dont think this beats Nemesis... yes the back is amazing but sitting at the front as a bit bland... Nemmie thrills in every seat.
5) Blue Fire
6) Megaphobia
7) Oblivion
8) Black Mamba (overrated)
9) Stealth
10) SilverStar.

Just got to get my 2 pence in before this thread is made redundant. My Top 6 is pretty much concrete, everything else sort of moves around certain days.

1. Alpengeist, Busch Gardens Williamsburg - What I love about this coaster is the whole variety of experiences you get on it. At certain points you get a fantastic sensation of speed swooping around the valley and then suddenly you're forced into the high-G elements. The cobra roll... WTF? That thing is INSANELY forceful. The first drop is arguably the best first drop of its type and I found it to be an immensely fun and re-rideable coaster.

2. Oblivion, Alton Towers - Only coaster to give me a massive rush of adrenaline each time I ride. It just never wears off!

3. Kumba, Busch Gardens Tampa Bay - Forceful, fun, pretty smooth, beautiful coaster. Love it.

4. Montu, Busch Gardens Tampa Bay - More intense than its younger sister but doesn't quite have the fun segments Alpengeist does. The MCBR pretty much kills the second half but it's still a bloody good coaster.

5. Furius Baco, PortAventura - Controversial, I know, but I seriously loved it! It was shaky, but it was nowhere near as bad as I had expected it to be. The launch is brilliant, the area and interaction is really good. I loved it! Very underrated rollercoaster.

6. Manta, Sea World Orlando - Beautiful rollercoaster, excellent layout, not a massive fan of the pretzel but it's a really fun ride. Even my big-thrill-not-so-loving Dad enjoyed this one!

7. Apollo's Chariot, Busch Gardens Williamsburg - Wheeeeeee! Nice floater, comfortable trains, again good fun!

8. California Screamin', Disney's California Adventure - Stupidly fun rollercoaster which throws everything at you! A launch, inversions, some small pops of airtime, a fantastic soundtrack. It's like a less-intense Disney-friendly Maverick!

9. Wild Mouse, Blackpool Pleasure Beach - Scared the absolute crap out of me, never held on so tightly to a coaster. That alone makes it deserving of a place in my Top 10.

10. SheiKra, Busch Gardens Tampa Bay - Good fun, but the drop just doesn't have as much as an impact as Oblivion's. (For the record, Griffon would be #11, I found SheiKra to be a tinsy-winsy bit more forceful.)

Oh and whoever said Hulk's second half was a generic B&M formula, I have to disagree with you there, nothing about that ride is conventional in the slightest and I'm pretty sure I came close to greying out at some points during the second half. I found it to be more compact, forceful and didn't kill off that much speed from the first half. (For the record Hulk slots in at #12 for me.)

I need to ride some decent non-B&Ms. ;)

^ Can I ask where Nemesis is? :p
It's #47.

Out of?

Quite surprised you rank it that lowly in all honesty.

107.

I don't really think it's that great at all and don't find it very enjoyable. I find Nemesis takes too long to get going and once it's done the Zero-G it dies. I'm not saying it's a bad ride, the helix, surroundings and atmosphere are very good, the ride as a whole doesn't do a lot for me.

I agree that the turnaround, loop and overbank turn aren't as forceful on Nemesis as they could be, but it's enough for most people. But the final corkscrew and the tunnel before it are just as good as the zero-g, helix and first corkscrew. And if the entire ride was as intense as the zero-g, I really doubt that as many people would be able enjoy Nemesis as much as they do. That's just my opinion though.

:)

What BigAl says is very true. Unlike Nemesis, the Batman clones are intense all the way through with no "soft spots" as it were at all. Now for me this makes them completely unenjoyable as it is just too much. Nemesis does seem to find a nice balance between intense and being fun/enjoyable which I think it probably one of the reasons it is rated so highly. I still believe that it is slightly overrated amongst enthusiasts though, but then again that is probably because I tend to prefer the taller B&M Inverts.

:)

See, I've only done Batman: La Fuga but I found the track between the second vertical loop and the first corkscrew to completely kill the rides pacing. From an explosive beginning to a dull middle section.

Anywho

1. Expedition Everest
2. Superman la Atraccion de Acero
3. Katun
4. Nemesis
5. OzIris
6. Manta
7. Blue Fire
8. Shambhala
9. Oblivion
10. Black Mamba

Hmm, I can't really put mine into a definitive order in my top ten, but these are the coasters that would be included. El Toro is most definitely #1 though.

1. El Toro
2. Montu
3. Superman la Atraccion Acero
4. Expedition GeForce
5. Nitro
6. Nemesis
7. Black Mamba
8. Dragon Khan / Kumba
9. Blue Fire
10. Top Thrill Dragster

The top four on my list were easy to pick. The others were a bit harder to order and on another day, the list would probably be completely different

1. Balder
2. Expedition Ge Force
3. Nemesis
4. Grand National

5. The Ultimate
6. Dæmonen
7. Oblivion
8. Big Thunder Mountain
9. Euro Mir
10. Air

There seems to be a slight bias in my list, as although I've ridden far more British coasters than mainland-European ones, my top three are completely foreign. Maybe they're more special to me as I ride them less often? I don't know. Anyway...

#10: Grand National, Blackpool Pleasure Beach -
I've not actually ridden this in years, but I have such fond memories of it that it has to make an appearance somewhere. Of course, my placing is also validated by how acclaimed a ride it seems to be.
#9: Air, Alton Towers -
A very enjoyable ride, and one I can never really tire of. It does exactly what it was intended to do.
#8: Stealth, Thorpe Park -
The launch still thrills me, and it seems to be ageing really well. If ever I were to visit Thorpe Park, and not ride Stealth, I'd feel empty afterwards.
#7: Oblivion, Alton Towers -
Can be flawed in so many ways, but I've never felt such genuine fear as the time I was queueing for my first ride on Oblivion.
#6: Megafobia, Oakwood -
I don't think anyone can truly dislike this rollercoaster. Of course, some think it's overrated, but I don't think it could ever be disliked. Relentless airtime from start to finish.
#5: Joris en de Draak, Efteling -
It took me a long time to choose between this and Megafobia, but I slightly prefer this. Reasons? It's slightly smoother; whilst roughness doesn't mean too much on woodies, the smoothness adds re-ride ability. It's also all the little touches. Besides post-Harry Potter Duelling Dragons, the best example of a racing coaster I've seen.
#4: Nemesis, Alton Towers -
What Can I say that hasn't already been said?
#3: Tonnere De Zues, Park Asterix -
To me, it's a taller, longer, and better themed version of Megafobia. I've only ridden it once, and I'd do so very much for a second go.
#2: Dragon Khan, PortAventura -
Granted it's about as formulaic a middling romantic-comedy, but this formula works. The fact I think enthusiasts can simply be too pretentious about formula, aside, this coaster is perfectly adapted to the formula.
#1: Goliath, Walibi World -
Like Dragon Khan, Goliath is another coaster considered overrated by many, but I loved it. The Stengel drive (if I got the name right), may be my favourite section of any coaster ever. I suppose I need to ride more Intamin airtime machines to compare.

Hmm.

10.Hollywood Rip Ride Rocket-Universal Studios- The music is so good when riding the coaster! I love the layout of it aswell!

9.TH13TEEN-Alton Towers- The first part before the crypt isnt very good. But after that its Amazing!

8.Air- Alton Towers- Always wanted to fly!

7.Rock´n´Rollercoaster Aerosmith- Disney Hollywood studios- Great ride and love the music in your ears and the lights flashing everywhere!

6.Oblivion- Alton Towers- That drop... I cant even explain how terrific it is. :p

5. Incredible Hulk Coaster-Islands of Adventure That launch... ho ho ho... LOVE the sounds in the tunnel before you launch aswell! ;)

4.Manta- Seaworld Orlando Serious g-force on the Pretzel loop! Thats my favourite thing!

3.Dragon Challenge (Chinese Firebolt)- Islands of Adventure- I found the chinese firebolt alot faster and more intense. The Hungarian Horntail got boring after a while. :/

2.Nemesis-Alton Towers- Obvious Reasons.

1.Kraken-Seaworld Orlando- Amazing ride, Long distance, that first drop is HUHMAZING and the inversions are also brilliant!

1. Nemesis
2. The Swarm
3. Troy
4. Stealth
5. Rita
6. Vampire
7. Space Mountain
8. Grand National
9. Air
10. Oblivion

compiling this list has really made me realise i need to go to some new parks!
