Or could it be something like Würmling Express at Phantasialand, so they aren't as limited to a flying theme?..

Isnt Thomas Land open for weekends again now? and all the way through untill Febuary Half Term when its open that full week.

Sorry to dampen the spirits but surely they need longer to install one of these rides with the park fully opening again March?

But with Harold the helicopter instead? Though I think they already have a Harold ride...

It could be based on Jeremy the Jet Plane -

Which could work as a regular or a suspended monorail.

I'll have to pry a bit more. Actually, I love Würmling Express, hence the reference in my name. Can't see something on that scale though, that would surely be quite a large and costly project.

A Squirrel Nutty effectively?

Re: Drayton Manor 2013 Topic

Only other info I could get is that it will be above Sodor Cars (station I presume?) And will span Thomas Land. I also get the impression the investment is part of the deal to renew the Thomas contract although that may be me being presumptive again but apparently the contract has just been renewed.

Got a bit more info. Firstly, I'm told the station will have a retractable roof...fair enough. It will be themed to 'Winston' and be manufactured by Zamperla. Now I don't know a lot when it comes to Thomas OR Zamperla so someone may have to give me an idea as to what this might look like.

Apparently, this is Winston:

That image fits in very well with the previous image of the Zamperla ride. In fact, Winston almost looks like he was designed to be a ride car on that Zamperla!

They could do anything with it really. I mean the image djtruefitt posted could easily be turned into a jet plane which would be a damn sight better than how that car looks at the moment.

It looks like tits to me.
:-X

Or it could be as Sam posted Winston the rail car. On a side note though how crap is the new CGI Thomas and Friends? Completely kills the magic ... Though I'm probably too old for it.

What would Rev. Awdry say?!

So, if we are dealing with Zamperla, it could be either this:

AERIAL%20RIDE_02.JPG

Which is their "Aerial Ride", to me the track looks a little like train track as daft as it may sound. Or their actual monorail system, which is this:

So there are two options. Though I prefer the "Aerial Ride" with the "frontages" (must have been cold that day  )... with a different car, it would certainly work well with their "Aerial Ride".

Monorail track just looks like Aerial ride track turned on its side! Anyway it could be either, the word 'monorail' was used but that could have been someone's own interpretation from looking at it rather than reading the name of the product. Plus, the Aerial ride certainly suits that Winston image far more.

I totally agree Earthwurm (excuse the missing umlaut!), exactly my own thoughts on the matter.

I think, if they make it long enough, it would make a lovely addition to DMP.

I don't know what it is about Monorails, but for some reason, they always invoke that essence of "Theme Park" in me. I always feel a park without one feels a bit naked, like something is missing.

The only one that doesn't so much, is Alton Towers believe it or not. Theirs plays a useful, functional role, but never enters the park. I most certainly appreciate Alton Towers monorail more than most, for precisely that reason I mentioned, but I enjoy the one at Chessie as it's on park where they belong. I'm not counting Squirrel Nutty either, it's hidden away for the large part, and feels like a ride not a monorail due it's self containment.

They definitely add another layer to a park. I just hope they think of it of more than just a ride, and actually make it interact with the environment around it.

A monorail type ride would be great for Thomas Land, as its quite a large area of the park and would give you a nice view over the park.

However I dont know how long a ride like this would take to build, as it will need lots of footers, which would involve digging up every part of Thomas Land.

Given there's a lot of buildings in that area they could always bolt in onto those. That'd save a lot of supports and footers :)

I just pray it looks tidy like Squirrel Nutty and not the support mess that is Storm Surge. I know they're different ride types, but I don't wanna see a support jungle!

This is pure coincidence, but the company my wife's Dad works for has just been sent an assortment of cracked and broken ride parts from Drayton for welding, only to be reconstructed before the start of season. Now apparently the parts are in dire condition and beyond repair (in terms of operating safely again) furthermore, it is clear they have have been primitively repaired by the on park technicians at some point and so they've continued to operate the rides as potential death traps. Also they have been requested to refit them in incredibly unsafe conditions. So, my question is, who on earth monitors the safety of these rides? Is there an authority on it or are the parks left to their own devices and only cracked down upon once something goes wrong? Needless to say he'd like to report the condition as he wouldn't like to be responsible for possible injuries caused by unfit machinery. Apparently the big wheel is in the worst state and a disaster waiting to happen.
