Why was this project even dismissed? It seems a lot of thought went into this project but under the strain it seems it was due to financial issues in the days of Tussauds? If anyone else could shed some light on this it would help vastly!

If Merlin were to reconsider this project I think it has a REAL lot of potential even with Shark Bait Reef on park I think if they did some interactive and ''experiences'' such as swimming with dolphins , snorkeling etc it would really boost the Resort feel.

Also taking into consideration Animal enclosures they'd need to be fairly large, and potential a outdoor area too but if this was planned out thoroughly I reckon Merlin would be onto another winner.

Imagine waking up of a morning in your hotel room, opening your curtains and looking down into a pool and seeing all tropical fish swimming past in a tropical themed environment! Who knows maby they could tie it into Splash Landings somehow? Maby even the water park!

I just think this project as so much potential its a shame that its been dismissed.. what are your thoughts/ideas?

I'm glad you've started this topic because its one I've been meaning to do for ages but never got round it it. So obviously my knowledge is very limited, i only found out about it via Talbot Street

They were created at a time when Alton Towers we're putting emphasis on "making memories" and were looking at all different types of experience attractions they could add to the resort. The artist impressions for the improved Towers Street, tree top play ground and interactive elements in the gardens all stemmed from the same era.

I think they were just ideas that Tussaud's Studios came up for various potential development sites across the park, and we're probably never taken past the concept stage. Most likely due to cost, as Splash Landings (a £40m investment) was still pretty new and something like Project Dolphin would likely cost a similar amount.

It's also extremely likely there are countless other projects in the Alton Towers vault like these that will never see the light of day, and the only reason these did was because a member of park staff abused their position and shared confidential information.

Just a note, all of our content relating to Project Dolphin and other parts of the Alton Towers archives were released with the permission of Alton Towers Resort :)
