Rock Band DLC to end, what's your wish list?

Some of you may have heard that Harmonix are going to stop bringing out new DLC for the Rock Band games. Those of you who know me will be aware that I am rather obsessed with these games.
Millions of people world wide have invested a considerable amount of cash on hardware to play them, as well as on buying new songs as they are released.

Well, there's nothing we can do to change their minds, sadly.

We all knew this day would come, but I had hoped we would have another year or two. There are so many epic tracks not yet released that would be perfect for the game.
No doubt there are countless more I will add later, but off the top of my head these spring to mind.

In no particular order:

Cashmere, by Led Zepplin
The Safety Dance, by Men Without Hats.
The House Of The Rising Sun, by The Animals
Apache, by The Shadows
Park Life, by Blur
Common People, by Pulp
Innuendo, by Queen
Mr Blue Sky, by ELO
Bat Out Of Hell, by Meatloaf
Sweet Dreams, by The Eurythmics
Rockin' All Over The World, by Status Quo
Prince Charming, by Adam Ant
Johnny B Goode, by Chuck Berry

And just for [Juan] sheets and giggles,
The entire album War Of The Worlds, by Jeff Wayne.

(List will be edited as and when I come up with ones I've missed)

What would you add to the list?

It's a real shame that the DLC is finally ending. As someone who has been with the series from the very beginning, when I bought the entire band set on the day it was released in the UK, as well as getting the whole Beatles set more than a year later, and has a library on Rock Band 3 of over 1000 songs (including RB1/2/Lego/Green Day), it's a game that I've invested in more than any. I'm still surprised that Rock Band managed to outlive Guitar Hero by a full two years - despite RB being the better game, GH was more popular.

If I'm being honest, though, I can't think of many songs that I'd really want on the platform, as most of my requests have appeared over the five years (including Tom Petty and Flight of the Concords).

I'm personally betting one of the last songs will be 'American Pie'.

Same here. I have all the games bar Green Day and a vast quantity of songs. In total I have five RB guitars and three GH ones, the keyboard and stand, three mics with two stands, and my drum kit has to be seen to be believed: it's pretty much a real E-kit, upgraded from the "pro" kit that came out with RB2. Mesh head snare and toms, 4 acrylic cymbals (a green crash on each side), proper kick pedal, a high hat pedal (switches the HH between yellow and blue) and even a precussion block and cowbell! :p Oh, and colour coded LEDs, of course ;)

I know many people who play real guitars look down on music games, but for those of us who lack the skill it's a great way to have fun and feel like the rock god you always dreamed of being as a kid. Plus no one can deny that when you have (up to) 7 people all playing together at a party, it makes the night.

Good call on American Pie. If I had to pick just one track to be in the final pack I'd struggle to decide between Mr Blue Sky and Bat Out Of Hell.

Oh god, just had a thought. i hope they don't waste a DLC slot on Hey Jude! O.O Or was that on Beatles? I can't remember.

No Beatles songs will be released on any other RB game, it's why the songs from Beatles: Rock Band won't transfer.

I too hate it when these games are looked down upon by musicians. It would be like Wii Sports being looked down on because you don't use a 'real' tennis racket. Besides, the pro modes require real musical skill - I'm gonna try and hunt down a pro guitar for RB3 for this reason.

In another way, the games ending now seems like good timing. Unlike Guitar Hero, which died rather abruptly, Rock Band ending now makes sense. We are at the end of this current generation, with the PS4 and next Xbox coming out by the end of the year. The rhythm game fad has long since dissappeared, so for Rock Band's DLC to remain for this long after the genre was milked to death by Activision shows the real quality behind Harmonix's games. With HMX looking at next gen development, partiularly with motion control (just look at their success with the brilliant Dance Central games on Kinect) there is certainly the possibility of the games returning in the future, although how that will pan out remains to be seen.

True, Yoko would never allow it... thank god. ;)

Just remembered another one. How could I forget Rockin' All Over The World, by Status Quo ????? That song is made for Rock Band! :p

Unfortunately there was never going to be any Led Zep songs as they never allow people to use their songs due to copyright paranoia. The same applies for Guns N' Roses. I'm not sure about songs, but here's some artists that should feature more:

Radiohead
Pink Floyd
Beach Boys
David Bowie
Bob Dylan
Rolling Stones
The Who
The Doors
The Smiths
The Strokes
U2
Bruce Springsteen
REM
The Cure

To name a few. And it's not that they're unknown, they are some of the most popular artists of all time, when all the DLC seems to endless Foo Fighters and Green Day.

Not actually so. With Guns N' Roses, Axl Rose basically pushed for Chinese Democracy to be released as DLC, and it was only if that sold well would other GnR songs be released. As you'd expect, the sales of that were poor to say the least, which is why we didn't see anything from Appetite for Destruction.

Bit odd that you say there should have been more Who songs, as The Who had loads of songs on RB!

Wasn't Welcome To The Jungle on GH3?

There does seem to be a bit too much "American teenage pop-rock" on the game. But then, I guess the vast majority of players are American teenagers ::)

Still, at least there is variety. There's something for everyone really. And let's be honest, you tend to stick to your favorite songs. I quite like when friends come over, they usually want to play songs I never touch. The amount of times they pick a song, and I think "I never knew this was on here!?" :p

Axl Rose filed a law suit against Welcome to the Jungle being used in GH3, which only recently concluded this year that there was no point in taking any action, as it was ages since GH3 was released. The difference with Chinese Democracy is that Slash was not part of the band, and so had no influence on the decision. For Welcome to the Jungle, Slash was one of the writers of the song and so believed he was entitled to do what he wanted with it, and so allowed its use on the game, without consulting the former members of his band.

Yeah it was, and a cover of Sweet Child Of Mine was on GH3. But it's just that by the time RB2 was coming out Axl was too up his own ass about Chinese Democracy, and pushed it on everything he could.

The variety on Rock Band is probably the best thing about the game, and why it is ideal for literally any party. It's the only game where you can play Miley Cyrus and Slayer! If you can't find a song you like on Rock Band, you simply don't like music.

I'd never heard that song before. It took me by surprise.

I play guitar and some other instruments to a pretty high standard, I've always been a natural when it comes to music, but I SUCK at these games!
It's an entirely different skill learned by different people for different reasons. People are always looking for someone else to look down on, but for me this is one of the most bizarre! It's like a rock climber looking down on a gymnast because they can't climb rocks...there's just no logic!

I agree that real guitar and game guitars are so far apart they may as well be driving a car and swimming. :p

But pro expert drums and keys are bloody close to the real thing.

Agreed, and drums are an instrument I don't play so I double suck at that.
All the more reason its silly to look down on though!

In fact, so silly I counter-look-down on these people in return for being deprived of all logic!

I had drum lessions when I was about 14, though I sucked at the time and eventually gave up. But since getting RB I rediscovered my love for hitting things.
A few years ago now, I was working on a gig, and sat down at the drums, and played about a bit. Nothing fancy, but my fellow techies were very impressed, so I guess I must have picked up a few things from playing the game! :p
(Disclaimer: I am in no way claiming to be able to drum for real, before Bear jumps on me ;) )

If you are interested here is my kit:

And a wider shot showing all of it, taken before I upgraded my toms to mesh heads:

I have a newer throne now. That one has been donated to the Pound Land lads.

Details:

* A 12" Pintech mesh head for the snare, 8", 10" and 12" for the toms.
* Ikea Dioder lights behind the mesh.
* High hat is a 10" Pintech TC. The pedal is a nice addition. When held down the HH is the yellow cymbal, release it and it is a blue cymbal (RB maps open HH to blue)
* 2 x Pintech Visulite 14" crash cymbals, and a 16" for the ride.
* I have a "Rock Pedal" for my kick drum.
* Finally, just for a laugh, I have a cowbell and percussion block (Pintech Nimrod trigger) mapped to the blue and green tom inputs. Only a handful of songs need these, though.

I've had many long Skype chats in the early hours about Rock Band with Diogo. We share quite afew songs on our wish lists including Meat Loaf,Men Without Hats and Status Quo. There's plenty of songs I would love to see but won't due to copywrite Issues or those artists who are "Too Good" to allow there material to appear on the game.

I used to be a Guitar Hero guy, I had Rock Band 1&2 but I still prefered Guitar Hero, It wasn't till I played RB 3 did I realise how superior it was to GH and since then I've hardly touched my GH games in 3 years. The DLC was much better on RB than GH due to the lack of content and that's one of the reasons I swapped, the other being the brilliant set list on RB3. I now have all the games except GD and afew weeks ago bought the licences to have the songs on my HDD.

It's disapointing that weekly DLC will be stopping in april but there are plenty of song's I'm yet to download and it's a great achievement that Harmonix have kept the DLC going long after the popularity of Music rhythm games had dropped.

Well thats enough of my Waffling on, I suppose I better post my list hadn't I.

Chuck Berry - Johnny B Goode (You forgot this one diogo)
Meat Loaf (full album of Bat 1&2)
Led Zepplin - Stairway to Heaven/Whole Lotta Love
Toto - Africa/Hold the Line
School of Rock - School of Rock
Weird Al (anything just for the lol's)
Zac Brown Band - Chicken Fried

And lots more I can't think of right now that I'll add soon

After my sisters broke the drums Diogo sent me I've finally got a new drum kit. I haven't used them yet though.

Harmonix have posted a blog about what goes into licencing songs for DLC
http://www.rockband.com/blog/from-licensing-to-release-the-life-of-a-dlc-pack

Remember that they aren't stopping DLC for Rock Band Network, if you have an Xbox 360. Those downloads will continue so long as Microsoft supports XNA. In fact, there are some pretty big names that have used RBN to release songs in the past, so whilst it's highly unlikely we'll ever see the likes of Pink Floyd on there smaller bands could still release stuff.

Ooooh yes, JBG needs to be on there just so that before you start playing you can turn to the rest of the band and say,
"Alright guys, listen. This is a blues riff in B, watch me for the changes, and try to keep up, OK?"
:p
*adds to his list*
