Immigrants

Maya

TS Member
In Britain, there are many immigrants, most perfectly fine, with jobs, and doing well for Britain.
However, there are a small minority who come here to take advantage of our system, with free health care and money.
I dont have much knowledge on this, so please feel free to give the correct ideas, but from listening to news, I know that apparently many Romanians and Bulgarian people will be moving here to Britain, when they will be aloud to get jobs.

Re: Romanian/Bulgarian immigrants

Just before this topic explodes into a firefight between people, can I PLEASE beg we can have a sensible discussion. Please?

Annnnnnnnyway on topic, you can't just roll up to Britain and demand a house and benefits......there is processes you have to go through. I am no expert and have no pretences to be but hopefully it won't be too bad with the immigrant situation.

Romanian/Bulgarian immigrants

Oh Christ

*hands over Daily Mail to sit and read quietly in the corner*

Germany has already let thousands in, and crime and anti social behavior has risen considerably.
Uk need to do something, before this will happen to us.
Just think- "I'm earning hardly anything, and have no secure house. In Britain I can earn so much more, for doing nothing, living for free!"

There is nothing valid here, either argumentatively or factually, in this. I would correct, but I really can't be bothered to waste my time against such a biased, uninformed piece of drivel.

Is this a direct line from a BNP leaflet?

These kind of "facts" are so disproportionately exaggerated by right leaning media it's scary and sad :(

Re: Romanian/Bulgarian immigrants

Do I hear something?

Something like 'I am going on a march 'cause I want Britain to be about British.....' ;)

Re: Romanian/Bulgarian immigrants

The first post in this topic is completely factually incorrect. Bulgarians and Romanians are free to enter and live in this country and have been since 2007. What is changing is that they will soon be able to work.

Maybe you should at least have the most basic knowledge about an issue before you form such an intolerant opinion about it.

*None patronising post coming up that might sound patronising but isn't!*

I think it's important to remember that, while the subject matter of this topic is more than likely fabricated and exaggerated, from what I know the creator of the topic is quite young. Therefore, it might be good to bear in mind the age of the creator before we start posting replies that could be deemed as harsh. Just a though :)

I have no knowledge of this subject really, but I'd just like to say that my employer is an immigrant from Tanzania and probably the best boss I've ever had :D he's a hard working man who employs several people and really looks after them. If it weren't for immigrants I'd probably be either unemployed or working for some big corporate soulless company. So my point is, for every immigrant that comes in and 'takes a job' there's probably another ten who come in and create a hundred more :)

Yeah, there are so many immigrants who do jobs that us Brits are way to lazy to do.
I have a Polish best friend, who although moving here a year ago, can speak fluent English, and has so many great plans for the future! Her family also work really hard.

All I can comment from is dealing with immigrants in my job.

1 - They know how much an item is exactly and can produce exact cash. The problem comes when they break it and try to return it. All of a sudden "no understand, money back please"

2 - Trying to ask for a card to be signed saying they have asked for a job. How did they do this? "Sign card please to say I ask for job" - You then get twenty in asking at the same time.

It is the same as every nationality, most are fine, others are only out to make trouble. The problem is the minute you raise the issue you are apparently a racist!

My friends have recently emmigrated to Canada. They weren't even allowed to set foot in the country untill they had proof that they had a job waiting for them, that could not be taken by Canadians. Even now, they still don't have perminant work visas and may have to return home in a couple of years.

Apart from mentioning that.... I ain't touchin' this topic with a barge pole.

Entering Australia is also VERY tough A colleague of mine has finally managed to emigrate there after five years of trying.

We should pride ourselves that we are a more tolerant and multicultural society than either Canada or Australia, the latter of which is quite a racist society. :)

In a time where tens of thousands of people in our country are jobless and hungry, you'd hope that our government had their focus solely on us before giving other people houses who have spent the first 30+ years of their lives elsewhere in the world.

And I thought I was asking for trouble hahaha!!

Careful about balanced facts lads... regardless of their truth.

Also can I add, Maya is very young for this type of debate online (no offense at all meant obviously), so let's please leave the "ignorant" "right wing" "daily mail" comments out of it.

This is a young lady, seeking to understand, let's respect that, quit the crap and talk facts and figures if you have them - everyone needs to learn from somewhere.

As for the question:

Maya, I can't answer the questions with anything other than opinions - but all I will say in life, you will get hard line "let everyone in, it's all rubbish... yawn on and on!" and "don't let anyone in, job thieving, benefit thieving, housing thieving... yawn... that goes on and on too" sides of this fence.

Seldom are either based on anything other than their own interpretation of data, to suit their life views.

You can apply that to most of life.

My advice, get the facts and figures yourself, read and understand them, and formulate an opinion based on the best knowledge you can get your hands on.

Ultimately, everyone has a motive behind what they speak - whether they realise, or indeed, acknowledge it themselves.

I can only commend you on taking an interest in a wider view of life. :) - And I REALLY hope this didn't sound patronising, as it certainly is only meant complimentary.

For the first time in my life, I think perhaps their might be too much immigration. Just purely in terms of resources. But I'm not buying into any of this "Romanian scum" crap. Similar things were said about the Polish ten years ago, and many more people years before that.
