Transport

Yup they will only have the one Alton Towers staff bus in the morning and after ride close with it taking a long an weird route.

£6m doesn't seem that much for a relief road, especially if it'll sort out the park's problems for drivers for good.

It's what, like, a quarter of the cost of The Smiler? Spread over a couple of seasons, you wouldn't have thought it'd be that much long-term for a big improvement in guest experience. :)

That price was how much it was estimated to cost, now the estimate is out of date and the bypass would cost a lot more now.

Then there is the planning consent and buying of the land to build it. you only need one land owner on the route to become suborn and the scheme is scuppered.

I hate standing up on that Alton towers bus and hate leaving a hour before all the staff get on. They really do need to add extra busses like over school holidays, last thing what family's want to do at the end of the day is to stand up on the bus. Out if curiosity how much is a taxi from stoke to the park?

About £40 from Stoke, half that from Uttoxeter. Isn't the Alton Towers bus stopping as of the start of this season anyway? Leaving only the 32A as a means of getting to the park from Uttox.

£40 from stoke by taxi? Mmm whoever is charging that is ripping people off! Taxis from stoke are about £25 they have big sign on taxi rank with the price to towers!

I just think they need to improve the bus service from Uttoxeter to the park, as well as promoting it more. It's not terrible as it is though.

Well, by the looks of things it's now non-existent unless you use the 32A by First...

First will change to a summer timetable I think around May time. This means a few more buses run each day, but as anyone who has me on Facebook will know, its not the most reliable bus service ever :p

Edit: Just checked and unlike normal, First have not published any details regarding a timetable change during summer. Will ask around.

Actually the sign has been taken down, it now simply says 'Alton Towers'.

The cheapest taxi company from Stoke Station is City Cabs, 01782 844444, who charge £18 for a normal taxi. I worked at Stoke Station until recently; if customers asked for a taxi I'd always call City Cabs instead of pointing them towards the taxi rank. They'd charge whatever they like depending on the customer - hence why they removed the set price sign!

Really? I've always found intercity to be the best for price in stoke!

We always used to have trouble with Intercity, seemed like they wouldn't wait for the customers. They also got a new system recently with their phones, which made it hard to use from the office phones

The bus service, particularly on a Sunday, needs to be sorted ASAP. I had no way of getting to Uttoxeter in time to get the train back, so had to get a taxi to Stoke which cost me £30. I got there literally just in time.

I know I wasn't the only person at Towers yesterday that got screwed over by them stopping their own bus service, as even staff had no idea what was going on. Were The Smiler to have opened this weekend, the lack of buses would have been a major disaster for the park. They need to reinstate the buses by May at the latest, or else customer satisfaction will take a drastic hit.

I fully agree with this, seeing as the service to Uttoxeter has been cut, the 32A couldn't cope this weekend with transporting guests and the park was dead! If they don't re-instate the buses I hate to think what the situation will be like when The Smiler opens. I've sent them an email about it, all I can think is that if lots of people complain then maybe something might get sorted.
