Well, I had the pleasure of a few spare minutes yesterday to sit and watch this year's revamped Mutiny Bay Pirate show offering, and I expected something on par with previous years - a little bit of a slap stick, some awful songs, and so much cliché in the storyline...
But alas - this year's show, entitled "The Kidnap of Lady Victoria Sponge", was actually very well enjoyed. Its humour had clearly raised several bars, a large sprinkling of risqué humour added for the adults, and an enjoyable story line to follow that wasn't that cliché, or not at least as much as I'd have thought anyway. As for the trashy songs - it did well until the finale, where it was horribly derailed with some childrens' pop fascination, but I suppose the kids need something to love about it too

So - overall - I'd definitely say that if you've never seen the MB pirate show before, GO AND SEE IT! If you've seen it before and decided it wasn't your thing - please, go and see it again! I must admit I was never a huge fan of the show, but it really seems to have captivated me this time and I genuinely enjoyed it - so give it another chance!

Firstly, Sharktooth Jack and Sir Edward England remain for this years show.
This year sees the loss of Sam Pigeon (well, when I last saw it) and addition of a new character, Captain Roger Ramrod (which had us in stitches the moment he announced himself), who seems to play the over-confident, suave and sexy pirate persona... and is full of rather risqué gags and remarks living much up to his rather risqué name... I wont spoil it all, but needless to say the use of "pumping" and Ramrod had me in stitches...!
Credit to the actor who played Roger Ramrod, he certainly looks the part and his mannerisms and persona rather aptly seemed to fit naturally for the character (slightly off topic, but am I allowed to mention he seems like he had a massive tongue too... he was forever sticking it out rather humorously!). Although his resemblance to a popular forum member also didn't go unnoticed by the group, eh Sam? I'm not quite sure about his ability to sing though in the finale (thankfully theres not much of it), but, that is forgiven for the seemingly natural charm he brings to the character at least!
Jenny James has also sadly departed, and been replaced with the rather dainty Lady Victoria Sponge (who is consistently referred to by other cake names by Sharktook Jack, such as Lady Jaffa Cake, a perhaps subtle but humorous addition). The part was played well, the singing was very well done, and the character was very believable. I did feel that the part of LVS was portrayed as an older/maturer character than previous female roles/characters in the show, and hopefully this was the intention of the show producers, so well done if it was
My memory is awful when it comes to writing about the show storyline itself, so I'll leave someone else to that job.
The finale song I mentioned previously? Well, it was One Direction. It was going really really really well until this point, and then I was just completely unattracted to the finale. I did notice some of the younger kids enjoyed it a little more, and I suppose it is really for their benefit. I guess unfortunately that some at Alton Towers see it that there must be this use of mainstream media to appeal to kids, but original songs are much loved by some too, and its a shame that the mainstream pop wins in this case.
