Mutiny Bay Pirate Show - The Kidnap of Lady Victoria Sponge

Well, I had the pleasure of a few spare minutes yesterday to sit and watch this year's revamped Mutiny Bay Pirate show offering, and I expected something on par with previous years - a little bit of a slap stick, some awful songs, and so much cliché in the storyline...

But alas - this year's show, entitled "The Kidnap of Lady Victoria Sponge", was actually very well enjoyed. Its humour had clearly raised several bars, a large sprinkling of risqué humour added for the adults, and an enjoyable story line to follow that wasn't that cliché, or not at least as much as I'd have thought anyway. As for the trashy songs - it did well until the finale, where it was horribly derailed with some childrens' pop fascination, but I suppose the kids need something to love about it too :p

Don't want to completely spoil it for you? Don't read the rest... :p

Firstly, Sharktooth Jack and Sir Edward England remain for this years show.

This year sees the loss of Sam Pigeon (well, when I last saw it) and addition of a new character, Captain Roger Ramrod (which had us in stitches the moment he announced himself), who seems to play the over-confident, suave and sexy pirate persona... and is full of rather risqué gags and remarks living much up to his rather risqué name... I wont spoil it all, but needless to say the use of "pumping" and Ramrod had me in stitches...!

Credit to the actor who played Roger Ramrod, he certainly looks the part and his mannerisms and persona rather aptly seemed to fit naturally for the character (slightly off topic, but am I allowed to mention he seems like he had a massive tongue too... he was forever sticking it out rather humorously!). Although his resemblance to a popular forum member also didn't go unnoticed by the group, eh Sam? :p I'm not quite sure about his ability to sing though in the finale (thankfully theres not much of it), but, that is forgiven for the seemingly natural charm he brings to the character at least!

Jenny James has also sadly departed, and been replaced with the rather dainty Lady Victoria Sponge (who is consistently referred to by other cake names by Sharktook Jack, such as Lady Jaffa Cake, a perhaps subtle but humorous addition). The part was played well, the singing was very well done, and the character was very believable. I did feel that the part of LVS was portrayed as an older/maturer character than previous female roles/characters in the show, and hopefully this was the intention of the show producers, so well done if it was :p

My memory is awful when it comes to writing about the show storyline itself, so I'll leave someone else to that job.

The finale song I mentioned previously? Well, it was One Direction. It was going really really really well until this point, and then I was just completely unattracted to the finale. I did notice some of the younger kids enjoyed it a little more, and I suppose it is really for their benefit. I guess unfortunately that some at Alton Towers see it that there must be this use of mainstream media to appeal to kids, but original songs are much loved by some too, and its a shame that the mainstream pop wins in this case.

So - overall - I'd definitely say that if you've never seen the MB pirate show before, GO AND SEE IT! If you've seen it before and decided it wasn't your thing - please, go and see it again! I must admit I was never a huge fan of the show, but it really seems to have captivated me this time and I genuinely enjoyed it - so give it another chance! :p

A certain 8/10 I think from me :D

Brilliant: all the best gags from the last few years combined with stacks more new ones (some of which get really quite adult!) - utterly hilarious and a catchy range of sings, was drawing quite a crowd today despite dead park :)

Roger ramrod played his part really well, actually really enjoyed the whole show ;)

I have to say I really loved this years show and I will certainly watch it again. Last years show had rubbish songs and a rubbish storyline that didnt really go anywhere. However this years show seems longer, yet I felt like I enjoyed it much more.

I like the new charactures, and its about time the show had a refresh, as there are only so many ways you could go with the old charactures. The guy who played Roger Ramrod was brilliant, pretty much every line he said was some kind of inuendo, he also worked really well with Sir Edward England.

I will have to try catch the show with other actors in it to see if it still works as well.

I would say its worth a watch this year!

I know I'm known to have always been a bit of a pirate show fan, but this year's really is fantastic. In previous years I have never seen so many in our group laughing and generally enjoying the show. The storyline is good as is the humour. One Direction at the end isn't everyone's cup of tea but it will be popular with the kids.

Also, Roger Ramrod is a brilliant new character! Him and Sir Edward worked so well together. Well done to all those who have produced the show, and as always the fantastic actors!

:)

I genuinely had jaw ache from laughing so much after seeing this show. It was funny right from the start. Obviously there were a few hiccups in the first show, but that was to be expected and Im sure the show will only get better with time. The actors fit the characters perfectly and they all did a fantastic job. The meet and greet at the end is also a great addition as in previous years they just disappeared after the show whereas now they stick around. All in all its a great show and everyone seemed to love it!

I actually LOVED the show when I saw it at the weekend. Over the years I've not been overly fond of the pirate show, it has had it's moment but its never really grabbed me, the introduction of Sir Edward England was a high point, but this year really raised the bar.

The humor in the show was a nice balance of stuff for the kids, but also plenty for the grown ups that will go right over the kids heads. Rodger Ramrod being the most obvious.

Speaking of which, Ramrod is a proper comedy character in the tradition of Lord Flashheart from the Blackadder TV series, with the addition of him the resort now has two very strong pirate characters in Ramrod and Sir Edward, I'm looking forward to seeing what these two can get up to away from the show in the general mutiny bar area.

So all in all this season show is probably the best to date for me, will defiantly be watching it again this season!

Have to report on a new brilliant gag that's been added - if the Sharktooth erection gag wasn't close to the bone (oioi) enough, there's now this little gem added to the Hypnotism bit:

RR: "Oompa oompa!"
EE: "Stick it up yer jumper?"
RR: "Urgh... Charcoal, charcoal!"
EE: "Stick it up yo-"*some kind of interruption*

Hilarious and went straight over the heads of the kids :p

I'm sorry to say but that little ditty was pinched from Ida Down the comedy cleaner from the 90's s he used it all the time.Look on utube under
