Thorpe Park: General Discussion

Re: Thorpe Park

Laura said:
I know your post isn't directly solely at me, Andy, but I have to defend myself here in that I am not actually criticising Thorpe Park. I am a big fan and will continue to visit many times a year, the only thing I really detest about them is the giant head characters!

Of course they will build to their target market and I was actually very impressed that they've gone with themes and IPs that will not 'suffer' too badly from queue-line boredom such as graffiti or damage. At Alton I find it much more distressing when I see such things.

I am in the minority in that I'm very reserved and not a 'going out' person. Going to a theme park is literally one of the most 'exciting' things I do. I find yobbish behaviour very alarming and that is a reflection of my upbringing, lifestyle, and mental appraisal of the situation.
I do wish people would be better behaved and take better care of the parks.
At the same time, they are still paying their way and their entrance/pass fees are going towards maintenance of the park - which has become a lot more visible in recent years (in my eyes).

So, in essence, all I'm saying is (albeit in a potentially offensive way) I'm not the target market - I don't find this appealing.

I have even said I would find somewhere else to stay if an overnight stay was required. Of course I don't expect them to build a family hotel.

But I don't think it is wrong to wish for people to behave more considerately on park and I don't think it is wrong to come to an online community and express this desire - and this definitely isn't limited just to Thorpe! I have plenty of inflammatory generalisations I can apply to every topic in this forum.

You're right, it wasn't directed solely sat you, and I worded it so that it wouldn't be construed as such.

My point was something I'd wanted to write about people's attitude to Thorpe Park in general, and it seemed like a good time to bring it up.

I too am fairly reserved, and would say Theme Parks are about as exciting as I get, which is why I enjoy them so much.

I just think people spend far too much time worrying about the clientele at places like Thorpe Park, instead of just enjoying your day out and focusing on your own experience. Young, loud teenagers on the face of it may seem intimidating and aggressive, but they are just having fun, and as long as it isn't at the expense of others (queue jumping, violence, abuse etc...) then it's not worth worrying about. Who here when they were younger were not loud, obnoxious, and partaking in slightly illegal activities like underage drinking and decriminalized drug taking? It doesn't mean you were a 'chav.'

And all those negative things I brought up are something that isn't exclusive to young people (chavs, or whatever you want to call them) if you see people doing these things, it doesn't mean they are 'chavs' it just means they are morons. Report them to the relevant authorities and get on with your day.

Again, this is not directed at you, but at anyone who causally bandies around words like 'chav' or 'thugs' as if all the worlds problems can be ascribed to one group of people who don't even really exist, except in the minds of those who want to feel superior to them.

Exciting news coming soon from THORPE PARK and Coca-Cola... check back here on Monday as all will be revealed!

Wonder what it could be, sponsorship of something? Or a new product of some kind?

:)

They've got a bunch of Coca Cola Freestyle machines. A friend of mine who works there posted a picture of the machine at Thorpe testing in staff areas.

Coca-Cola Freestyle Wikipedia entry said:
The maximum rate of output is 95 drinks per hour.[4]

Bloody hell, that'll be one of the highest throughputs on park! :p

Re: Thorpe Park

Is this the same thing that Universal Orlando uses with the 100+ drinks options? If so then that's great! The only thing is, Merlin only offer 3 types of fizzy drinks and not many different types of regular juice. Doesn't seem like there's much point if they don't offer loads of different options.

Re: Thorpe Park

Im actually a teenager who visits thorpe park regularly and i must say that i've never experienced anyabusive/anti-social behaviour. I do see where people are coming from with certain young people being "loud" around the park. I also think the Crash Pads do look very good. They are rather small but are big enough for there sole purpose. I am visiting thorpe park next week and i am staying in the crash pads, so i will post my opinion on them :)

Re: Thorpe Park

On my second visit to Thorpe I arrived at the gates and was met by a group of loud chavs being taken out of the park by police with a few police cars parked out the front. Not sure what they did but that's the only time I've been to a theme park and witnessed that kind of thing. :/

Doesn't seem to have been posted here, so for those who haven't seen it here is The Swarm 2013 TV advert:

I have to say, I'm not a fan! It's just a hashed together re-do of last years add, which was great! However now, it just looks clumsy and looses so much of the great build up! Also, in the ride shots... All the seats are still forwards! And the less said about the OTT facial expressions and reactions the better! It's like Saw's Add all over again!!

Re: Thorpe Park

I personally think the backwards bit is done very poorly, it looks cheap and rushed.

To be honest it is better than being ignored and meant I had to sit down and actually describe my experience rather than jumping on the 'don't take valuables to Thorpe' bandwagon and assuming everyone knew what I was on about. At least my post was read and had a (unintended) reaction.

I cannot help but laugh at your posts, not because I don't like them, but because you remind me of me and how I stirred up reactions when I first joined a few months ago. ;D

I literally sat here laughing, and agree with all the points you made by the way, and the quite brilliantly firm and assertive, yet fair and polite fashion with which you articulate them!

Ahhh, I do appreciate those who know how to make an entrance and an impact.

You are going to become a bit of a legend on here Laura I feel, not only that, you are strong in your opinions, know what you like and don't, think a bit outside of the box, and articulate your points excellently.

I don't think we will always agree Laura by any means, but this forum may be in trouble now ha-ha!

Re: Thorpe Park

Thorpe have done a great job this weekend. Was there today for opening and the only rides that didn't open at all were Colossus, Saw and Rush.. Everything was going well, even Tidal Wave was filling boats. Around 3 all the roller coasters closed due to falling temperatures and as the temperatures continued to fall, the water rides for some reason kept going as did most of the family rides, Detonator and Zodiac.

If the park can keep up reliability to this standard all season, it would be a fantastic benchmark for future seasons.

Why anyone would go on Tidal Wave (in this weather) is beyond me! Mad!
When I visited recently the splash didn't seem so big. Perhaps the peeps dont get completely drenched?

Re: Thorpe Park

Some of our group came off with very numb hands and could barely move their fingers. Still, how many people can say they've ridden Tidal Wave in the snow. ;D

Re: Thorpe Park

^ Now that would be awesome!

God, just thinking about the fact that you guys went on Tidal Wave in this weather.... brrrrr! The only time I go on it is if it's a heatwave, which is very rare in this country :p
