Cedar Point - Goodbye Disaster Transport, Hello Gatekeeper

Who cares? The ride looks better than anything we could ever dream of in this country. :'(

Haha, yeah, isn't Britain crap, har har har! Better than anything here! Oh wait, this looks like a middle-of-the-road B&M and nowhere near the quality of the absurdly intense Smiler, under construction in the UK right now. ::)

Entrance plaza looks fine. Fits in well with the rest of Cedar Point ride areas - a station shed, some canopies covering a standard cattle pen queueline.
I will be interested to see how this ride looks when first entering the park, that should be where the impact is, but I do think its fairly simplistic and bland. They made a fair bit of effort with Maverick, compared to other coaster installations. It's shame they have gone back to basics in styling this.

So if this is called Gatekeeper, will their next ride be called Keymaster?

*wonders who'll get that*

Did you not hear about the names for their new mascots Diogo? One will be called Zule, and the other Vinze Clortho ;)

Yes, have some

*wonders if DiogoJ42 will get that more obscure reference to the same thing*

Hehe... I could probably quote along with the whole film word for word if I tried.

But anyway, Gatekeeper looks wonderous. Yet another reason why I want to visit this park more than any other on Earth. (Yes, Disney fans, you read that right;) )

I was excited to visit the park...

Then I realised it was the US version of Thorpe and full of absolute mediocrity with 3/4 rides that I found really good...

It might have 5 now... But certainly one of the most over-rated parks in the world...

Ah, but remember, I'll take an unthemed amazing thrill beast over an amazingly themed average coaster any day. I know it's a minority view round these parts, but I can live with it. ;)

I agree, a park can appeal to me even if it only has one ride that looks an absolute beast. Kings Dominion for example is a really poor theme park, nothing to shout home about at all. Lots of rubbish there. However there are a few gems, namely I305 and Dominator. This made going there more than worthwhile!

I want to go to Cedar Point for some of their coasters, not for the whole theme park experience you'd get at Disney or EP as I know you just wouldn't get that!

:)

Same with SF:MM. Apparently the park operations are terrible, the rides are all effectively car park coasters and there is little to no theming whatsoever. Despite that though, the lure of Tatsu, X2, Goliath, Batman, Superman: EFK, Riddler's Revenge et al makes it completely irrelevant.

Screamscape has some news on what the park will be doing with their old Wildcat and more:

Park News - (3/25/13) The local news reports that Cedar Point has donated pieces of the removed Wildcat and Disaster Transport coasters to the National Roller Coaster Museum project.
In other news, I’ve been told that there will be a change to Fast Lane at Cedar Point in 2013. Instead of one Fast Land system for everyone, they will now offer Fast Lane and Fast Lane Plus, a premium version that will cost an additional $15 per person, but will also add in Dragster and Gatekeeper access. The regular Fast Lane program will not have access to these two attractions in 2013.
