2013 On-the-gate Price

James

It seems this year the on-the-gate price for theme park admission has gone up to £46.20. This is a £4.20 rise from the 2012 admission price at the start of the season!

BOGOFFS still come at a reasonable price of £23.10 - not that bad at all.

Ticket prices from over the years (I cannot guarantee all prices are correct):
1980 - 1981: £2.50
1982: £3
1983: £3.95
1985: £4.99
1988: £7.99
1990: £9.50
1997: £18.50
1998 - 1999: £19.50
2000: £21
2001: £22
2002: £23.50
2004: £26
2005: £28
2006: £29.50
2007: £32
2008: £34
2009: £36
2010: £38
2011: £39
2012: £42
2013: £46.20

So what are peoples views on the price rise this year? No surprise? Shocked? Couldn't care less?

:)

Edit: A very useful post put together by Dan (post on second page of this topic) - shows a good perspective of the price increases.

I have done some more searching and found out the ticket prices for all the missing years. I have also added the percentage increase for each year

The on the gate price takes away the option of spontaneity to those without annual passes. You have to know when you want to go, especially if your group is an odd number. But with a BOGOF it's very reasonable

I think people would be shocked if they knew what proportion actually paid that price, because I bet it's still around at least the 5-10% of visitors.

It's utterly disgraceful. I'd love to see what would happen if Towers halved the ticket price and didn't offer 241 deals anymore.

Would be 'interesting' to say the least.

How do merlin expect people to pay £46 each for a day out it's going to be £250 for a group a four adults with parking and food.

Overinflated to give an increased sense of value for vouchers and online bookings.

There is no way whatsoever it needs to have gone up £8 in three seasons. It should be £40 at a maximum in my view.

£4.20 price rise in one season?!

New £18 million ride or not, that is ridiculous. And by the looks of it by far the largest single price rise in the parks history.

M£rlin, get out.

Oh god, I remember the day when I first went to Towers and the entry price was £20ish. Crazy to think that was over 10 years ago, and it has risen to double that. However I am not surprised.

It disgusts me how it has to rise EVERY YEAR.

And it's a shame, because they'll keep doing it until the BOGOFs work out at £30 each, because that's probably about what people will pay up to.

I think it's worth remembering that the price rose during last season on at least one occasion.

Yeah, it traditionally (well the past few years anyway) rises during Scarefest, or mid-way through the season. However the list of prices in my first post takes all prices from March.

Either way, mid-rises or not. Between March 2012 to March 2013 it has gone up by £4.20!

I'm glad to see my initial question in the QQ's topic has been opened into its own thread, as I think this is worthy discussing. Thanks James for sourcing the info.

I am astounded on the price increases of late and wonder just how it's going to go in the future.

I do feel they have reached or are close to reaching the price ceiling in the current economic climate. They really can't go much higher without a large percentage of people simply saying it's too much, even with the 2 for 1 vouchers. I think that there's going to be a significant change in strategy in the near future - with prices halved and 2 for 1 vouchers removed - to come more in line with other parks in the UK.

The £2.50 ticket price in 1980 would be £8.10 today if Towers just increased prices based on inflation.

Of course, we all know the reason for inflation busting rises every year is down to the fact the park operates on a BOGOF basis.

Bah.
