[The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2

I know the inoculator bin discussion has passed but they remind me of the sharps biohazard bins that nurses put used needles in. I think they're quite cool but I do agree they are so obviously bins.

I guess the games unit (if thats what it is) will just be another HB Leisure style win a giant banana thing? If it is I hope they have "corrected" bananas with Smiler logo faces.

In regards to 'the van' - I know this was mentioned months ago but I haven't heard any info since.

Are there any photos of the van? Or any ideas what it was relating to exactly? Is it the one from the marketing photo/videos?

the van was on the original plans as a proposed theming element.

I hope the game station ties in. The Swarm's game station isn't that offensive because it matches the theming slightly. This worries me.

I think the fact that we are no longer getting the van is even more evidence of the theme not being finalised at the time of when the theming plans were submitted. Considering how late everything relating to The Smiler seems to have been planned I do think that they are doing a good job with it all. I'm starting to wonder if an IP was on the cards initially but it fell through. Then they obviously had to stick with the spider like theming as it's when they had permission for but had to modify it to fit a new theme.

Just a weird thought that popped into my head,

I wonder if the van element has always been a Building themed to be a van?

There is nowhere else the van can go in X Sector though, unless you want it just put on concrete which would reduce the walking space.

This is exactly what I was trying to say the other day. Merlin seem to sacrifice theming for money making opportunities!

Unless the van now has absolutely no relevance to the theme and thus it would be totally pointless to place one there?

I really can't see how a van would fit in with the current theme, although if anything I can imagine it being one of the last bits to be put in.

Also, some of the new pictures of The Marmaliser on TST's Facebook page look immense! It's really coming together :)

I do question the vans relevance to the theme and therefore its necessity of inclusion. The "old" spider and the current incarnation have very few similarities apart from size and shape so perhaps there wasn't a way to "marmalise" the van into an appropriate theme.

A few months ago I'd have gone with yes, just whack an ambulance there, but I'm not sure the theme is medical at all. It's just bizarre.

But judging by what we've seen so far with the Marmaliser, it could be made to fit in as a sort of 'surveillance' van to watch over the advocates.

They managed to change the Marmaliser's theme so why not the van too?

All this van speculation brings up the question of what was actually under the tarpaulin when TT posted a picture of a "van" some months ago now ::)
