If they were going to enclose the Flasher, surely the inside of the tunnel would be black, not white?

Maybe, unless they are going to paint swirls on the walls and are going for a proper disorientation?

Re: [The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2

Lights will reflect off white won't they? Resulting in a more blinding effect.

Re: [The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2

A white tunnel will reflect daylight and won't seem dark at all.

Meh, I guess we'll see in a week month or so.

Re: [The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2

Yes James, You are in fact correct. It is a lot more blinding.
Tell you what.. give me 5 minutes I'll knock up a quick video :)

I meant with a lid on it! :p

I am the only one who really can't work the queue out at all?

It's entirely different to the plans for the queue. Is there even any space under the Marmaliser for a Plaza anymore?

Makes a lot of difference. My eyes are still blinded by the brightness...

I'm liking The Smiler mouse mat there! ;)

Personally I don't think the track will be enclosed at all. I think what they've built will merely be a solid fence.

:)

Re: [The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2

Doesn't need to be necessarily enclosed.
Just like it is now will have an effect, The Sun will be a help as well, when your dipping into the white walled box it will be bright on a sunny day, not to mention several lights flashing into it.

I don't think there is going to be a plaza. I think that went when the plans regarding the groundwork changed. The plaza was meant to under the 'Staffordshire Knot' and this obviously become impossible with the pit. I think the ride entrance will be where it is on the game, meaning that the only way to get under the ride as it were will be to enter the queue.

:)

Re: [The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2

Take it from someone who's been working in lighting for 12 years, it's all about contrast. Unless the tunnel is very long , has kinks at either end, or doors, the ambient daylight (not the same as direct sunlight) will still flood in and be scattered by the white walls. Black walls would reduce the ammount of scattered light, making the tunnel darker.
A bright flash in a dark room is blinding. With daylight still around, it won't be very effective.

The way things are going, who knows what they have up their sleeves though?

Re: [The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2

Small nuclear explosion every time a train enters to produce a bright light

Re: [The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2

Maybe its for the on-ride photo so you don't end up with someone in the queue picking their nose in the background of your £22 picsolve piece of tat...

(i truly have no idea on where the on-ride photo point is)

I thought it was going to be The Flasher, I am no longer convinced

Re: [The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2

Those trains look great now they are on site, I was skeptical with Alton's original pics but they've turned out looking perfect for the ride IMO.

Maybe it's just me, but those same original Alton photos sort of suggested each row being independent to the others, better handling of the transitions etc (because of the gap between each row). Rob's shots now suggest the opposite, the gap between each row is there, but rows 1+2 and 3+4 will be joined much in the same way as the standard Eurofighter trains are? :(

I don't think so...normal Eurofighter trains are literally one unibody car with two rows. These trains have clearly separated rows like normal trains - they're just lifting them two rows at a time on the pictures.

Re: [The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2

They lifted the first two, wrapped, rows in separately this afternoon. As can be seen in the shots in the TST album on FaceyB! ;D

Re: [The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2

Not liking that black fencing, if it improves the effect of The Flasher, i'm all for it, but it really sticks out like a sore thumb at the moment.

Oh well, they'll probably paint some Smiler logos all over it anyway.

Oh right, that makes sense. Cheers!

With all the ride interaction, and how close the queue will now come to the marmaliser, hopefully they'll have thought of a good layout for the queue. If there's a ride Merlin have built, which could use some Queueline storytelling, it's this one.

Ah nice one, cheers Dar. Faith restored that the rows will glide round the track rather than shuffle. :)
