Re: [The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2

They put plants in around the back of the toilets which should help to hide some of the huge concrete footers around there, but I haven't seen anything done in the main ride area. There's still time though, so they may sort something out if they haven't already done so.

I look forward to the perpetual pessimists coming up with wild conspiracies as to why it's sat there and hasn't been round the whole track ;)

Also, even though it is hard to see I am thinking there is no logo sticking out of the front of that train, unless its going to be attached later. But I cant see anything in the middle of the front. yay :)

I would say the opposite actually, if you zoom in you can just see the edge of the logo, otherwise what else would it be? The logo was welded on so no easy task in simply 'removing' it i don't think.

Don't forget the angle of the picture, and how much room is infront of the seats for your legs. The middle of the train is behind the track in the main.

Re: [The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2

Why on Earth don't people want the logo on the train?

One of the best bits of this project theme wise surely?

The logo itself is, definitely, it's just the way it seemed to be stuck on the front of the train that I don't like.

Everywhere else it'd used it looks really good, and slightly subliminal, especially on the headrests at the back. On the front of the train it just seems to say "Look at me, I'm the logo!"

I bet that train just sits there all day just to tease us now. :p

I can see it now, the team is sitting around a desk having a 'where we are at' meeting. they are ready to send a train around after the park is closed. and in a moment of boredom in the meeting one of the group says " it would be funny if we left a train at the bottom of the second lift, just to wind up the coaster geeks" they all laugh and decide to do it for a laugh.

Yes I know this is unlikely, but its a funny thought.

I can't disagree with that, it's the reason I liked it - it felt like the logo was dragging you around the track.

The thought crossed my mind too, I have to say. In terms of, ooooh, we can get a bit of interest and publicity by strategically leaving one on the track!

I would not put it past them, of course it could just be time/not ready to run the big lift yet.

Let's face it, teasing is definitely part of this marketing campaign as a whole.

Also, if it was you, and you had the chance to wind everyone up would you do it? I would definitely!!

It is a perfect way to get a crowd just to stand in the area all day. They are obviously testing so will they or wont they do more testing. Lets just stand around here and wait just in case.

PMSL!

TS forum will be quiet today, they're all on pause stood by the vertical lift hill.

Re: [The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2

Slight update from today, as many people were hoping, the Smiler Game stall has now had some addition theming and features added to it!

Here we can see the Stall is named "Challenge The Smiler". Very much in keeping with the other marketing we have seen, such as "Play/Ride+Buy The Smiler"

I have to say, I really really like it! Very fitting and it sits well with the rest of the area! And by the looks of the bright yellow spiral board being carried in by the workers, it's probably not quite done yet! :)

And as if by magic, you talk of more to come and you get it! ;)

I don't think it was welded in place, in the photos of the trains being lifted into position there is no sign of the logo, and there is the Alton Towers Resort branding on the front indicating that it is the front of the train, what would be the point of having it written on the front of every car. It could be bolted on. Also I agree, the logo its self it fantastic, but its a little too in your face putting it on the front of the train as a 3d element, just seems a little tacky and interrupts the shape of the train. But still, just my opinion.

I'm pretty sure its welded on... See picture from AT Official.

(Although you could be right, I doubt they would bolt them on as they would be easily reachable by riders & noone wants it falling off whilst the cars in motion anyway :twirly: )

Maybe just one train has them, I just find it tremendously unlikely they would put it on just for a promo image on their mini-site, (bolted, BluTacked, welded or otherwise.)

If it was bolted, there would be holes from the Bolts / tapped holes anyway.

EDIT - actually does look like I can see two bolts in 'teeth' end ;D - sorry lol

Re: [The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2

I see bolt holes, in the middle of the logo's bottom two 'teeth'.

I'm just thinking based on this image is all, and that is the front of that train, the text is only on the front of one car.

With that green screen around it could those images be from the filming of an advert? Thus why the logo was put on? It looks a little too flimsy to be an actual ride part.

Disagree with that, quite to the contrary I believe the bolts on show on the front of that image of the trains being lifted are in fact covered by a casing which incorporates The Smiler logo on it in the green screen image.

It looks like they have taken that casing off to prevent damage.

Hey I am the first person to give the theme grief at times, but surely, even if you don't like the logo on the front of the trains, it is better than that square plate with four bolt heads sticking out?

Re: [The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2

The image with the stall shows Enterprise needs a 'themeing disk' put on the middle of the spinning part ;)
