Re: [The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2

Yeah I agree with TheMan, it looks like they took to logo off to prevent damage.

It doesn't look flimsy at all, if anything, it looks quite bulky and like it's been attached quite strongly to the car!

Re: [The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2

Is it only me who sees that the smiler logo on that front bar doesn't come close to them bolt holes at all. It looks as if that is where a bumper should be situated.

The logo looks to be mounted above this on those advert images.

I think as I said earlier it forms part of the entire casing. I would imagine it is a whole piece, the case covering the bolts and continuing into the logo, that also appears to have bolts holding it in place.

it just looks like a front plate to me.

Re: [The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2

Could the train depicted just be a rear carriage? Surely the rear carriage wouldn't have the logo?

If it was the rear car why would it have Alton Towers Resort written on the bumper? And my bad, I thought the logo was consistent of one thin piece of metal, but further inspection has made me see that there is actually a layer of thick black metal/plastic. I still don't like it but I think it will get reattached just to complete the look of the trains.

I did say yesterday i would upload some more images. Well heres various lights dotted around the marmaliser.

Re: [The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2

Really pleased with some of the detailing on the both the train carriages and the ride now that we the ride is nearing completion.

Particularly like the "Smiler" on the headrests of the back of the train, at least its something to look at whilst you wait on the break-run. In addition, the detailing of dots on the wheel guards is a level I didn't think that they would go to.

The painted black footers are another surprise as well - there seems to be a great deal of thought going into this coaster, more so than we have seen for a long time at Alton Towers. Thirteen is a fun little coaster but in the end I thought that some aspects were rushed. This *thus far* doesn't seem to suffer the same problems - the arrows in the pre lift room give me hope that we will see a heavily themed interior. There is still a lot to see and judge (that huge queue building for example...) but it looks good!

With regards to the planting - I do think we will see some, though it is going to take a lot of time to bed in. Oblivion manages to maintain a sparse, industrial feel despite the area being relatively well vegetated these days, so I don't see why Alton wouldn't attempt the same here. It will, however, look very bare for a long time. Look at Nemesis when it opened, and pre Katanga Canyon Congo River Rapids.

Re: [The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2

really impressed how this has come together....it does truly look amazing.

My only concern, limited room for planting which is not going to break up the HUGE concrete slabs this thing is sat on

Re: [The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2

Coasterforce.com have updated their home page to say that ride pull throughs are happening. Anyone have anything to support this? I understand the trains being where they are being the biggest hint, but I wondered if there was anything else to suggest a pull through?

Re: [The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2

Heard a little rumour today that The Smiler won't be ready till June ?

Re: [The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2

Wouldn't surprise me.

Re: [The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2

TBQH If it opens in June, I doubt ANYONE would be surprised.

Re: [The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2

There's absolutely nothing that would currently point to this though... Even if it is the last day of May, Towers will be throwing everything at the ride in order to open it 'on time'. Had there been more delays with the supports that needed adjusting or with the concreting of the footers then maybe there would be less faith in the May date. However, as the finishing touches are now being made in the ride area and the cars have clearly been testing, I would doubt that June will be in Alton's minds at all.

Re: [The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2

I really highly doubt they will open it in June. The May opening has been so vastly covered by now it would be an absolute disaster for them to open it in June.

It looks like night time and evening testing of the ride is currently going on and a lot is being done on site daily. I think they are doing everything they can to open it this month and I have full faith in this being open soon.

Re: [The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2

If they have to build 24hrs a day, they will. This ride HAS to open in May or they will be the laughing stock of the themepark industry, not to mention even more money lost in ticket sales.

Re: [The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2

I'm still finding it embarrassing that in the month it's meant to open they still don't have a date.

[The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2

Surely if they want to launch the ride with a large impact, they really need to give the public a bit of notice before announcing / opening. Two weeks from now doesn't really give a lot of people a huge amount of notice to make plans. They need to be careful opening day isn't a huge flop if they leave it too close to the date before announcing.

Wonderful! This gives me hope that the concrete walls will be painted with the lines and markings from the game as well, to be honest anything that softens the ugliness of the concrete is good in my book.

Re: [The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2

Towers have said they hope to announce an opening day this week. They obviously wanted to wait to see if testing got off to a smooth start or not as ultimately that is what will determine the date I feel.

It pains me to say this, but I really do like the games stall. It looks really good, much better than I was expecting. I just hope it's not ruined with big soft toys hanging all around it.

:)
