Re: [The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2

Bloody awesome photos once more Rob...

I really, really am going to miss watching the progress of this build. First ever coaster I've properly followed from start to finish.

On the whole, it's looking good! (Station building aside)

Great pictures!

Me too. It's sad that the whole construction process is almost finished, but hey - The Smiler should be there for many years to come!

Re: [The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2

It finally looks like it belongs in X Sector, especially with the chevrons plastered everywhere! Personally, I have an exam at 1pm on opening day. I daren't chance it and miss either so I'll wait for the next day!

Now, where's my abandoned vehicle! I demand to see my abandoned van! ;)

That is over at thirteen ;)

I don't know why people are getting upset about not being there on opening day. I am going this year but i may not ride the smiler this year.

Thanks Rob, as ever the photography is brilliant!

I'm liking the chevrons in the inside of the building!

Re: [The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2

Yup great pictures Rob. It's a bit different the style of the station as to what was originally in the planning app. Those yellow pipes onto building are rather noticeable outside the prk, wonder how they got away with that!

Re: [The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2

I wonder whether the rumours about a huge illuminated Smiler logo going on the front of the station building are true? At the moment it does look rather bland with only the pipes and exposed concrete.

Re: [The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2

There is a big gap in the middle of the station that looks perfect for a big smiler logo!

That there certainly is. Where did this rumour spring up from, that'll look fabulous!

Can't remember where I heard it, however with all of the other improvements they've been making along with the large gap which seems perfect for it, I think it's rather viable at the moment.

Re: [The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2

I think the trailer video is brilliant, but the fact that it doesn't contain even a single shot of a train makes me even more sure there is much more to be revealed. They must be having to pay the people testing it a lot to be working long nights, so I personally think there must be something they don't want us to see, which of course must be outside. The obvious answer would be something to do with the vlift. It could be something as simple as its just to create more hype, but for the GP I think it'd be more effective to show them trains flying round during the day. I still think there's a twist. JW always said inversion records aren't that great because once they're beaten no-one is interested in them anymore. I could easily see them wanting the record (which I imagine will stand for quite a while going off Collossus) but I don't think they'd JUST want it. There has to be more. Although I hope its not a reverse freefall on the vlift, really don't think I'd enjoy it! :S

Re: [The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2

It is very interesting that they haven't got any ride cars on that video, especially as they have been testing the past few nights. It could be a case that there are more videos to come showing the ride cars, or like you say ianto42 it could be that they are trying to hide something from us.

Re: [The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2

Surely though if they were trying to hide something from us, it'd be as amazing to announce with the World Record Breaking element. My only gripes with the video itself are lack of even the sound of the coaster in action to not even hype me up a tad more, the lack of HD giving the video an meh feel overall when it should be stunning. Let's just assume Merlin didn't want to go over £18m for a HD camera, I'm glad they kept it under £20m though. Not only for finances wise, but it doesn't heighten expectations as much for those who are dissapointed, I might be crazy analysing it this far, but like with something looking more appealing at £19.99 than £20. But of course the lighting show stunning quality that need to be reused at Scarefest.

Now I'll just need to blagg my GCSE Poetry Exam on that day. Yipee! I am glad that this will iron out any inevitable Day 1 faults though! With 165 seconds of track I'm sure they'll always be heavy maintenance every day for Towers as the ride ages!

Re: [The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2

I must admit it is rather perplexing that the video isn't available/wasn't filmed in HD. All of the Smile.Always. videos have been in HD. It is a shame as with all those lights it would have looked even more amazing. Still, I'm sure there must be a good reason.

:)

I wonder how long this will last. It's a good move, did they not do the same for Thi3teen when that first opened?

This is normal. It won't exist for a few months.

Re: [The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2

Thirteen didn't straight away. At least not to normal guests, there was some condition where you got free ones if you did something like book the cancelled event or something, other than that there wasn't a fastrack for a while.

I think.

Yes I believe they did. The only was to get a Fastrack on Thirteen when it opened was if it broke down or you had a complaint (I think anyway). I remember they had the special Thirteen Fastrack cards. There will obviously be Fastrack on The Smiler eventually, but I do think it's good that they're not using it straight away when there will obviously be big queues as it is.

:)
