Re: [The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2

Looks brilliant I thought! And a lot smoother than I imagined - mainly because of all the complains about Gerstache that you hear on the forums.

Those final 2 inversions look a beast as well, and the airtime hill under the Marmaliser looked like it packed a punch which I'm very pleased about! Considering until now I've been far more excited about the 1st half of the ride, I cannot wait to see the whole thing in action!

Re: [The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2

And with only the second half being shown, could there be something special in the first half?

Re: [The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2

It's so nice to see the tacky logo is back on the front of the trains ::)

Re: [The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2

Yeah, the logo doesn't look too great on the front it must be said.

Re: [The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2

Mmm, is it me or does it look smooth? If this is a next-gen Euro fighter then perhaps Gerstlauer have given the wheels and track a complete rethink to make them smoother?

Then again that's just my own opinion. :S

Re: [The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2

It does look very smooth from that video. Looks like John Wardley has gone out with a bang! Such a great layout.

Can't see any problems with it though, unless what BigDave has heard is regarding the first half? Given they've got an opening date set though I would assume they are either confident to fix these issues. Or it is something that will not have a massive impact on guests riding it.

Re: [The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2

Whoa! That's a lot faster than I expected! A lot lot faster. That second to last roll <3 <3

Lol at her face on the airtime hill, guess that's going to be pretty forceful then. :p

It's quite funny seeing people elsewhere lashing out they only showed 8 seconds of it.

Remember the backlash when they showed the whole of Th13teen including the secret element? Looks like Towers have made sure they don't reveal too much this time, and I'm amazed people are so upset about it. All this does is help build up the anticipation and rumours, which I reckon Towers are happy to encourage.

For me, it was just good to see a train going round the track, no matter how brief.

Um, I think it's more of a matter of they could have done at least a 5 minute segment on The Smiler. They could have done the standard "The Smiler is the latest brand new roller coaster from the UKs number one theme park..." and so on. Then interviewed a representative for Alton Towers discussing it (or even better, get someone from Merlin Studios or Wardley to talk for a bit) THEN they could have shown that 8 second clip, along with some of the on-ride footage Alton Towers released this morning.

This ride is no Th13teen, it's literally impossible to over hype this ride. So I can easily see why so many are disappointed. Hopefully they will do something a bit longer at a later date. 8 seconds with things like this is a more 'blink and you will miss it' moment.

Re: [The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2

On-ride footage with the train still covered in plastic wrap?! I still think they'll be going to the wire to get this open before the end of the month. :S

Speed looks good and looks smooth enough for me tho. :)

Re: [The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2

Airtime looks pretty ferocious! Last inversions as mentioned look immense. Trains still looks like giants on the track.

If they duel? ....

Still the logo hate though? I don't get the logo hate.

How long do you think plastic wrapping takes to remove?

(I know, I know... :D)

Re: [The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2

I think the only bit that looks 'rough' is the second flip on the cobra roll… :X

Apart from that, SWEET JESUS!

Anyone else just IN LOVE with that music? I hope it blares out through The Smiler's area. Ride entrance is up too! Looks great!

Looks greatly shocking... I would hope that's nowhere near finished...

That aside, looks good...

Re: [The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2

love the music, but did anyone else expect after the intro music and all the laughing to hear Ozzy Osborne go "ALLLL ABBBBBOARDDDD" and go into crazy train? No? Just me then...

Re: [The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2

Does anyone else find the transition/cut between the two ride halves suspicious (reverse free fall cut out)? Or maybe it's just cutting out the boring bits of it going up the lift hill.
