Re: [The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2

The ride entrance is... a yellow box? Yeah, I hope it doesn't remain like that. But it's nice to see the thing finally moving. The music is good and the ride looks fun.

Looking at the hill before, it doesn't look to me like it will offer ejector airtime though a brief pop if fine. Hopefully those trims won't weaken it like the trims on Th13teen do for the airtime on that.

Anyone else just IN LOVE with that music?

Yup ;D

Perfect for the ride IMO.

And that offride video....wow. Looks like the first inverted drop is taken even faster than the second, which already looked intense.

Does anyone else find the transition/cut between the two ride halves suspicious (reverse free fall cut out)? Or maybe it's just cutting out the boring bits of it going up the lift hill.

I think they are just cutting the parts you won't see the train. from that angle, you can't see the mid course break.. So it would be 15 seconds or so of just track.

I doubt theirs any reverse free fall. Don't expect anything except what you see now, you will just be disappointed for no reason, it looks amazing as it is, don't expect any gimmicky freefall things.

I'd be dissapointed if there was something gimmicky tbh. It would be entirely pointless. The ride is amazing enough without any need to rely on a gimmick.

It works on Th13teen because it's the whole peak and point of the ride. It builds up to it, it's themed around it. Having something in the middle of the Smiler like a drop wouldn't work at all, and would be entirely pointless. So I hope it's just the rollercoaster we see now.

Re: [The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2

Ha, that music in the station would be pretty intimidating.

And holy crap, that's with the lifts at a very slow speed. If they speed them up, it will be ridiculously paced. And you can see the difference with the heavier trains that normal Eurofighter trains. These have more hang-time at the top of the inversions (more air-time) and then accelerate faster after going through. The cobra roll and batwing especially show this.

Re: [The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2

With it looking so fast, could those trims come into play? I hope not, I want to ride that airtime hill as fast as possible!

Re: [The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2

Wow it looks brilliant! Really impressed with the speed that it carries, I had horrible images of it going really slowly around the track. It does look like it's going to be great to ride. It also doesn't look that rough from the 'onride' video, nowhere near as bad as say Saw. Also I love the music, it fits perfectly! ;D

I won't comment on the entrance yet as it's clearly only just gone in.

:)

Re: [The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2

The speed of the whole thing is incredible.

This looks fantastic! I really hope they're testing whilst we're there tomorrow! ;D

[The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2

Love the off ride video. Looks to be very well paced and offer a very exciting ride.

The music is brilliant, however I am not a fan of the entrance. That's just.. Odd.

I'm just a bit upset that we've got no huge 3D smiler logo for the entrance, and it just seems a bit boxey and not much else atm..

On-ride footage with the train still covered in plastic wrap?! I still think they'll be going to the wire to get this open before the end of the month. :S

Speed looks good and looks smooth enough for me tho. :)

Plastic wrapping will be stopping the restraints getting marked when they take dummies in and out etc.

WOuld much rahter they left it on for a bit, and we get nice trains at the start of service than them be knackered already.

Re: [The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2

Wow, I have to say it looks a lot better than I had imagined! The inverted drops look ridiculous, you go through them far faster than I had thought, looks as though at least one of them will produce significant zero-G roll style airtime.

Re: [The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2

Not entirely impressed with the entrance...

But other than that SEXY SEXY SMILER.

Re: [The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2

This looks absolutely epic. The entrance I hope and am sure won't end up like that but wow the ride looks great. I don't think it looks rough really either.

Re: [The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2

In terms of the entrance, it does look pretty awful at the moment. However as it has only just gone in we can hope that it may be added to. In my opinion they should add some swirly patterns and CCTV cameras to it, I think it would make it look a lot better with very little effort needed. The games unit looked awful at first but the addition of swirls and cameras made it look so much better!

:)

Re: [The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2

I have to say, it's not quite as fast as I'd imagined considering the height difference between the top of each lift and the batwing / cobra roll but what has surprised me is that the way in which it goes through each element. It has very un-Gerstlaeur like dynamics and looks much more like a B&M coaster. Perhaps this is simply down to it having a real train rather than individual cars but it actually looks quite graceful whereas I was expecting it to sort of zip round like most single car Gerstlaeurs do.

Re: [The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2

If a person has physically ridden this, does it mean they have completed the required testing hours? So all that is needed to be done is the landscaping and final theme elements

Re: [The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2

I've watched the video a few times, and IF, IF the trains leave the lift hills at the same time, there should be a couple of nice duelling points:

-11 seconds after the trains leave the lift hills should look something like this:

smileduel2_zps17fcc3f3.jpg

(Sorry about the appaling quality and obvious editing, but when PowerPoint is the only editting tool at your disposal, it happens... :-[ )

-The air time hills should seem like a bit of a race, with the train from the second lift hill 'in the lead'.

-The batwing/cobra roll, as long as the trains leave the lift hills at a vaguely similar time, will duel to some aspect (hard to tell where exactly, because of the entrance feature).

-There's got to be some sort of duelling by the end of the two halves as well I'd have thought.

Not much difference to what people were expecting, but still, at least it concretes the idea a bit further. :)
