Slightly off topic, but the way the meet posts are working now, it's more like the Star Wars trilogy - with the opening Smiler meet probably happening after the 4th one. Given there are informal ones Friday and Sunday with an official Saturday one - or whichever way around it is now!

Been entertaining hasn't it lol?

That was rehearsal for actual opening. It was chaos.

Let's do better next time.

There's nothing behind this, but I've just got a sneaky feeling that this will actually open to the public at some point tomorrow......which will really get on my nerves now I've changed my plans.

It simply isn't on. If a restaurant table was booked for 20:30 and you turned up, and the previous family were still eating there, so you came back at 21:00 (a later date) to see the same problem, you'd feel inconvenienced and annoyed at the poor management.

Its unlikely, but could it have something to do with the weather? Woke up here to a big thunderstorm, and its forecast heavy rain and temps of around 7 -10 for the rest of the day.

I'm curious as to whether the site is ready and finished.
If this is actually a H&S / Technical issue, then this would still mean the rest of the site would be completely finished and ready for guests.
If the site is still not finished, then I would question whether they knew they were going to run out of time to have it ready by today.
I guess we will find out from the people on park today.

Edit - From TST Facebook

There is still work going on in The Smiler site with work going on with the queue line fences and some people on the vertical lift working. Staff are stood advising guests that the ride is not open and there is still no date for opening.

Work still going on with the queue line fences etc? So, it actually wasn't ready regardless of any other issues.

The site isn't complete, its apparently a hive of activity today i don't think the issue is with Gerst.

The Smiler staff are on park though, think they might be doing the painting by the looks of it!!!

The fact that the queue was not ready for today is unacceptably poor in my opinion. As of May 2nd the queue line was half built, how they couldn't get the other half done between then and now is beyond me. I'm going to put it down to another example of guess what, poor planning. I guess the site/ride area wasn't able to pass its H&S checks if there wasn't a complete queue to actually check.

:)

Good luck to everyone heading down at the weekend hoping it will open, if they can't even finish the queue lines on time ready for the expected opening day. This really does suggest to me that knew before yesterday that it wouldn't be ready.

Any other issues that arise should not affect the people working around the site.
I think I'm going to stick to my original plan of visiting in September!!

Perhaps they shouldn't have spent so much time getting the media on site and on the ride, and taking silly press shots etc, and focused on the job in hand until it was actually finished.

For anyone who wishes to follow what is going on with The Smiler today, Towers Nerd Live is the place to be, they are doing some great updates. I'm just hoping someone gets a photo of the queue soon!

:)

TowersTimes have just updated saying that the Smiler won't be open tomorrow either...

Suppose we'll have to wait and hear from Alton Towers!

This will open on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday......because that's when I'm back at work. I Knew it was too good to be true when it was planned to open on a Thursday. Oh well, s**t happens :)
