MINI MEET: Oakwood and Cardiff, 31st August-1st September 2013

This is a little way off but it's an idea that I've been discussing with a few people and it seems to be proving quite popular. Here is the proposed plan:

Saturday 31st August:

-Visit Oakwood Theme Park, park is open until 10pm with fireworks at the end of the day

Sunday 1st September:

-Possibly have a quick visit to Barry Island in the morning (if it is open on the day)
-Spending the rest of the day in Cardiff which seems to be a really nice city. Possibly visit the Dr Who Experience for those who are interested

Accommodation would likely be in a Travelodge somewhere in the Cardiff region. Someone may be able to provide a suggestion for this.

Obviously Oakwood is home to Megafobia and Speed, two really good coasters. And they have their new Neverland are which will be nice to see.

Post here with any interest, suggestions or general discussion!

:)

There is plenty of cheap-ish accommodation in Cardiff, as well as a couple of travelodges, there's the usual Premier Inns, Ibis etc..

Sounds great to me, park is open until 10 so maybe stop somewhere a little closer to the park Saturday night?

There's a TL on the M4 near Swansea (around an hour from the park) and another a little further along near Bridgend.

I'm up for this, but would need a lift.

I'd be keen to do Brean Leisure Park the day before/after.

Although I'm a maybe for now.

Oooh, wouldn't mind making a trip to Oakwood as I have never been. However this will be money dependant so put me down as a maybe.

I too am interested - never been to Oakwood (or Cardiff for that matter) - will confirm nearer the time but certainly looks like a good plan!

I'm only a 20 minute drive away from Cardiff so I'm up for this (money permitting as always, although I should be fine), may be up for Oakwood too. Will be the first time me meeting you lot!

Obviously things can be properly organised nearer the time in terms of where to stay, booking things etc. Glad to see that people are interested though. With Oakwood closing at 10pm it may indeed be better to stay at a hotel closer to the park so I shall look into that.

:)

I drove down to Oakwood in 2011 for the 10pm closes and frankly it was horrendous driving down there in the morning, visiting the park, then having a 2 hour drive to the Travelodge after. I felt really rather unwell...

It'd be best to stop somewhere the night before, and then somewhere close after the park closes, too.

I agree, that probably is the best idea. I've only been once, you forget how far it actually is!

:)

Spoke to Ian about this last week and am definitely interested, need to find out what's happening at work though. Definitely Maybe :)

I'd definitely be up for this - been wanting to get to Oakwood for a while, but would need to split petrol with a couple of people to make it viable (happy to drive though) :)

I'd be happy to get in on that with you, providing I get the front seat :p

I would possibly be up for joining you!
Need to check about work etc closer to the time

Though I mentioned it on Saturday, forgot to post here, but am up for this weekend. Even though it rained nearly all day last time, had a great day, and the night time on park is something else. (Who needs huge flood lights that bathe an entire area with glorious light when you can simply hang up a few incandescent light bulbs, most of which don't work, and savour the darkness)

Will have car space for travel from North West/Midlands.
