They clearly haven't - or signs of this would already be visible. :)

This will just be one of many promotional pieces of marketing where companies run competitions and so on. It can be rather lucrative to stick a huge new rollercoaster and give people the chance to win prizes from it on your products

Yes a ride that's been delayed twice due to problems, won't open on a "busier" day it's common sense :twirly: hence the Thursday proposed opening day on the 23 rd

After seeing the site today I can honestly say although I was itching to go on, seeing it like this was just made me more annoyed. Now im not an expert so im not going say that its complete and waiting, for all I know there could be major problems still, but the fact that there are workers just pottering around the site practically kicking dirt shows what a waste of time and effort some teams put in when they really are in the dog house. Also the gp's general reaction to the closure wasnt that bad, that is untill is still constantly being upsold around the park and jammed in your face as opening 23rd may and how Alton will give us 'regular updates' yet we still dont have any explanation other than teething problems.

Anyway apart rom that I really enjoyed my day, staff were cheerful and I still am just a little excited to finally ride the Smiler.

I think they just want to get it open now. It seems like it is almost completely ready to open. They're not just going to leave a completed ride sitting there for a few days just because the park may be slightly busy. If they did that then you'd have to ask serious questions about the management. I know there's a big risk that it will break down when it opens, but at the end of the day it needs to be open ASAP from a business point of view for Towers.

:)

The entire operation reeks of bad management. It's inexcusable for the Towers to announce the ride wouldn't open with such short notice when so much work has been carried out since, surely they would have been aware of the fact they weren't going to meet their deadline sooner? Unless of course all of this work is as a result of not passing their H&S tests - this to me sounds rather implausible however.

I think the park believe they're in the kind of industry where service isn't key - people will come and visit regardless because service makes up a small part of what the resort is offering. Lets face it, I visit Alton Towers to go on rides - it's not like a clothing retailer where service will ultimately depend on link selling etc. I may be jumping the gun here, but the Towers do need to pay more attention to how they treat their guests - they should be the parks number one priority. There needs to be a centralised point of information for customers and staff to ensure there is some coherence in the delivery of news, updates and information.

Regardless of whether this is new, or upsets fans, towers has every right to do this, it says so in the terms and conditions. At the end of the day it is just a roller coaster, don't get your pants in a twist, I don't think Alton Towers is intentionally wanting this to happen and its not in any of our control so why worry.

Sit back relax, grab a pint and chill, have fun and when it finally opens, go and ride it.

These things happen, just chill, the way these posts are written are as if this ride not opening is the equivalent of the end of the world.

It isn't easy for people to chill after they've spent hundreds of pounds and travelled hundreds of miles to ride a massively advertised rollercoaster, only to discover that it's still being constructed, an entire week after the advertised opening date. People aren't in a chilled mind frame; most people cannot just pop back with a MAP like the majority of the community can - Alton Towers is the family holiday in these tough times and having the main thing that they're looking forwards to closed in confusing circumstances will understandably cause aggravation.

I pretty much spent all my money going to towers last Friday/Saturday, didn't have enough to buy a pint in woodcutters by Saturday, and yes I'm still saying chill its just a roller coaster.

These things happen, you could spend £100 getting there to ride it, but how is that different from spending that money a couple weeks later to ride it and its down just like 13 was,

These things happen, I'm not on Merlins side, just saying people need to get a grip.

Just thought I'd give you a heads up, The Smiler is still closed due to technical difficulties. The Smiler website itself still says 'Join us May 2013', which would suggest tomorrow, or that they haven't updated that part of the website.

The Smiler FAQs just has the smiler logo and the text name, with no mention of 'Join us in May 2013', but I'm not sure if it's always been like this.

Also, someone on park from TTF has shown pictures that the construction fencing has now been taken down and you can walk down towards Challenge The Smiler now. Surely opening tomorrow or Saturday.
