[The Smiler] Construction Updates / Ride Speculation Part 2 *SPOILER FREE*

How long until they either radically change the trains or retrack that section? They cannot run a ride that goes too quick during the last stages of the ride, but too slow over the first bit. Only simple solution I can think of is maybe increase the speed of the first lift hill

Does anyone know whether when a train stalls they forcibly drag it round the rest of the track, or somehow unbolt it from the track? If its at the bat-wing then (if memory serves) they would just have to get it to the crest of the following corkscrew and that would take it to the 2nd lift, right?
 
They can do either, but I think they just remove the up-stop wheels and then lift the train off with a crane

It depends what ride it is tbh. When this has stalled previously they had got a crane in a lifted the car off the track.
 
According to TT, this time the stall was caused by the trim brakes being applied unnecessarily. Seems like a software problem:

I am not saying this is untrue, but how would TT know this to be fact so early after the incident? Either way, whatever the problem is this time, it's an issue nontheless.

Well, they claim that Liz Greenwood has told them. I doubt they would quote her name specifically if she hadn't said something.
 
Im fairly certain all the magnetic fins had been removed from the trims so it wouldnt be possible for them to slow the ride down???

Towerstimes haven't exactly been the most reliable with information on The Smiler lately so I take their information with a pinch of salt.

My theory is that the dummies were not filled with water as it's warm today and they thought it would be ok, but it wasn't.

They didn't quote her as saying it was a computer problem. I suggest that she made a statement about working to resolve the problem without referring to what the problem actually was. She's very unlikely to even know, let alone reveal it to anyone. I think they've just written the article in a slightly questionable structure.

They were still there last Wednesday on both hills... :twirly:

I think they are still there, when riding it on Friday it certainly felt like they were.
 
I thought the pneumatics were still in place, but the actual magnetic fins had been taken off.

EDIT: Heres a picture taken by Dave Whitehurst on Thursday 6th. Note how there are no magnetic fins on the hill, but the pneumatics are still in place. Last time I was there there were only a few still on, but I thought they had removed them all now.

EDIT EDIT: Seems like on some of Dave's pics there are still a few fins remaining.
 
They were there on Saturday im sure of it as you could clearly see them sticking up from the track while we were queueing....

Yeah the fins are there, they are just hidden behind the rail, they were working yesterday
