PS4 or Xbox One

Couldn't see a thread for this so I'm opening up one for discussion with regards to the two consoles which are set to be released later this year.

Sony appear to focus more on the gaming side.

Microsoft appear to be more focused on building an entertainment unit.

------

What do you think you'll go for if you do purchase one? I've had a 360 since 2007 which has been fantastic but I'm swaying towards PS4. £80 cheaper, more freedom with pre-owned games, the design is nicer, you don't have to be online and it just looks better suited to my needs.

What do you think?

Please keep PC comments to a minimum, most PC users seem to like raving about how powerful their's is, not in here please :). And no fanboyism either!

Given that the only reason I got a 360 was to play Rock Band (well, Guitar Hero at the time), and that those games are pretty much all I use it for... I'll stick with my PC.
;)

Really can't see many people buying the Xbox One. It's too expensive, mainly because of the pointless features they've added in that gamers don't actually want whatsoever, and in addition UK buyers are being shafted by having to pay £100 more than those in the US.

I'll probably stick with the 360 until they stop releasing games for it, then I'll cross the bridge of what to do after that.

PS4 because:

Well for £500 I can build a PC more powerful then the previous gen consoles, (how it performs against XBone and PS4 is yet to be seen)

Hook it up to my living room, run it with a game pad, boot directly into steam big picture (console mode) and have already 1000s of games much cheaper then the new consoles, have sales buying games for £2 a piece to compensate for no used games.. plus new games tend to be a tenner cheaper on PC maybe £20 cheaper if these new consoles have games costing £50 or so. Plus I get to use a my previous games I've bought on steam, and upgrade graphics and components at a later date to improve performance as I go along.

This isn't a PC master race comment, but it seems to be a lot cheaper buying a gaming PC then one of these consoles... Something seems wrong with that... The amount of games I play, I feel like I would even be saving money even if I spent 600-700 on a living room pc.

The above is essentially what the steam box will be when the elusive Valve gives us more info, which given the flak Microsoft seems to be getting for the XBone, the steam box may very well be a big competitor for the console wars.

Once they drop their prices a couple hundred ill be interested in the PlayStation though!

I'd rather get a 3DS, a Wii U AND probably have spare cash left over for some decent Steam games instead of an Xbox or a PS4.
New Leaf, Smash Bros. 4, Link Between Worlds, Wind Waker HD and this new Zelda Wii U title in development has definitely got me interested. Only Kingdom Hearts 3, Banjo-Kazooie and Fable 4 grab my attention for either consoles.

Definitely a PS4. Always said that Sony were the better and more innovative company.

Poor old Wii U though. apparently some developers are abandoning it now because few people are actually buying the console...

Handheld devices have gone due to the popularity of smart phones, and now it seems that consoles are definitely on the way out. We've seen it with the Wii U, and it'll probably happen with the PS4 and the Xbox One.

I can't see myself bothering with either, and a gaming computer seems like a pointless thing for me to buy- with me hopefully going to Uni next year- so I'll be sticking with the 360 for now- although, I've hardly played it in the past six months, and there are no games that are really floating my boat.

Xbox One is a lot more innovative than the PS4. The only reason everyone is cheering PS4 is because Microsoft is supporting publishers to increase their revenue, via second hand sales, while Sony are not.

It will be interesting to see how this works out in the long run, as in theory, games developed for Xbox One should have bigger budgets/be sold cheaper than the PS4 equivalent.

The DRM issue also becomes non-relevant as digital sales increase. Where possible, I buy all my 3DS games via the Nintendo store, even if it means paying a little more, as its so much easier, than having to worry about where the game cards are. Sadly, when I finish with these games, they are stuck there, not doing much, but every now and again, I load them up and have fun. The same will happen with Xbox One and PS4 where people will buy games online, and not be able to trade them.

It will also be interesting if the rumoured "TV Content Provider/SKY" link up happens, where you get a Xbox One instead of a Sky Box for £50 and sign up to a 2 year contract with Sky with all the content being available via Xbox One.

The problems with the Xbox One are not it's innovation, it's Microsoft's stupid decisions. For example, having to have Kinect on all the time or having to always be online sound like pointless ideas to me.

Actually, barely any of the money will go to the developers. Not enough to fund games anyway!

The PS4 is clearly more innovative as it has more social features, more features for the Cloud, more unique games, and it's also cheaper. ;)

The Xbox focuses on TV too much. People want to buy either console for games, hence why it's called a games console. Great, it might have Sky. I already have Sky though and I'm happy with that. Having Sky doesn't affect the way games are played and the PS4 is offering the better games console! ;)

Therefore, the PS4 is the better console for what they are meant to be!

Always watching you, I wonder where I've read that before, ohh The Orwell estate are on the phone.

Anyway I'm going to stick to my gaming computer so I can get Mirror's Edge 2! XD Not only that I will probably eventually get a PS4

This is exactly right. Why should we pay £200 extra for features that most people don't want? Internet connections aren't even consistently good enough to stream HD content yet anyway, so the idea of using Sky on the Xbox rather than getting a Sky box is ridiculous.

Going to get a gaming computer probably. I may be dropping a few PMs to the computer guys on here at some stage for help :)
