Thorpe Park: General Discussion

Re: Thorpe Park

I expect will see Vortex, Quantum, Zodiac, Depth Charge and Rush maybe?

I think its more targeted at people to stick about to have a bite to eat / ride a couple of the less thrilling rides than a full fledged event. I guess if theres demand we may see more who knows.

Re: Thorpe Park

Fair play to them.

It'd be nice to chill there with that skyline after dusk later in the month!

It's more than we're getting out of Towers at themoment at any rate.

Re: Thorpe Park

Fair play to Thorpe, they really seem to be trying as of late. From the extended opening hours, to the new direction they are advertising, it's starting to look like the more attractive of the Merlin parks. Alton Towers and Chessington should be taking note.

Re: Thorpe Park

Oh. Thought this ride close was entire park - the way they mentioned it on facebook just sounded like entire park.

That explains why they used Vortex in the image then. How boring.

Did I just read....

Re: Thorpe Park

Tbh I think Thorpe Park's efforts of getting customers through the gate this year have been much better than AT's alienating of their guests, desperate sounding or not.

Re: Thorpe Park

They have been running that annual pass offer for a little while now, probably a month or so. You certainly can't blame Thorpe for trying this year. Especially with nothing really new. They have really increased their time on FB/Twitter, and they often reply to the majority of the posts/tweets (unlike Towers, who I would say reply to about 5% of them!), and have trialed things like late openings, etc.

Re: Thorpe Park

Towers haven't had any issues getting customers through they gate though, why would a Merlin park drop prices if they don't need to.... this is Merlin.

Re: Thorpe Park

We decided on a last minute trip to Thorpe for Summer Nights. We arrived quite. Late last night at 8.15 and checked into the crash pad.

The atmosphere on park was really really good and there were very few guests on park. Staff were all really all upbeat and made the evening a lot of fun! We spent the last hour riding stealth 14 times in a row as they would let you get off and walk straight past the baggage collection back onto the platform.

We then chilled out with drinks at bar 360 until around midnight. I'm not sure if its because I'm not used to parks opening so late but it was an excellent evening. I just wish the bar was open longer :) here again tonight so am looking forward to round 2 if its as quiet!

Crash pad is quite fun and not as horrendous as I was expecting!

Re: Thorpe Park

To be fair whilst it sounds a great deal, I dont think £56 is that much cheaper than a Thorpe Park annual pass is usually anyway?

But i guess the more sold the more who will return thoughout the year spending more money!

Was this yesterday you went? Me and Ashlee were there yesterday! :) We done Stealth 12 in total in the whole day. Walking though the baggage connection place too.

We managed

Stealth - X8 (5 In a Row and 3 In A Row) We did do 3 Front rows out of this
Nemesis Inferno x2
Colossus x3 (In a row)
Saw x4 (In a Row)
Swarm x1
Storm Surge (Ashlee Has never done it, so only why we done it!)

We still could have done more, we probs at around 30mins left, but with as being on park all dark, we were tired. I do hope they will be doing this event again!

Re: Thorpe Park

After yesterday, Thorpe has seriously gone up in my estimations. The park seemed better ran than any of the other Merlin parks I've been to this year.

Firstly, the parks opening hours. Not including Summer Nights, it was open from 9:30 to 7:00. This allowed people on park to truly take their time doing things (I'd often see many people just relaxing and enjoying the weather rather than waiting in line) and I felt that because of this (and the decent throughput on park), queues were unbelievably reasonable. Apart from Storm Surge, which seems to be the publics favourite ride, queues were usually no longer than an hour for anything. As a result, we managed every ride apart from Storm Surge and Detonator.

I fail to see why Alton, or even Chessington, can't be open for these hours.

Also, the Summer Nights was amazing. Fantastic atmosphere, walk-on attractions, and all for £5. The Swarm is massively improved at night, and seeing the park lit up from the top of Stealth is indescribable. I really hope Thorpe keep it on, especially after yesterday was such a success.

Re: Thorpe Park

I noticed yesterday that queues were reasonably spread around the park which helped matters. For instance, it's been years since I've seen Quantum's extension queue being used. I think this really helped keep queues for the larger rides reasonable as people were trying everything.

We had a few niggles yesterday. Fastrack at Colossus going through the exit meaning it was taking five minutes to send out dispatches. Although we did get our own back at The Swarm where the backwards queue was 90 minutes, the fastrack queue was 25 minutes and facing forwards through the main queue was... walk on. Some major screw ups with batching as it was like a literal free for all.

As for Summer Nights, fantastic event with a proper party atmosphere throughout the rides, particularly on Inferno (which itself is running amazingly). We even braved a go on Tidal Wave and was forced to go around for a second go. Nothing better then a hard day riding, sitting outside the dome with a nice cool pint and thinking about the day. Thorpe has really pulled out all the stops this year to push itself to be better. Even better knowing that after 14 hours of hard riding, we didn't encounter a single break down. Normally I get two or three but not yesterday.

Re: Thorpe Park

Throughout August, up to September 1st, Thorpe Park are extending closing time on the following:

>Depth Charge,
>The Beach,
>Vortex.

The rides don't close in line with the 7pm ride close, but will remain open until 9pm, to all guests, including Day visitors and Crash Pad guests, and will act as a further source of income as a direct result of additional revenue through the Bar & Food. It's also promoting the 'Stay and Relax' message to day visitors.

This is in effect from tonight.

Re: Thorpe Park

If popular, I hope we may see more staggered closing next year, maybe adding one of the coasters and one or two more flat rides.

I love how Thorpe are doing these little things. Vortex and Depth Charge may not be great, but at least it's something :)
