Scarefest 2013: Discussion

So, can we get everyone to moan about lighting and theming more now as well so they'll change that? ;)

This is good news and I hope it does mean that they're really thinking of improving the event over the whole park.

Sense prevails.
I noticed a couple of days ago that my AP runs out on the 21st and I have Sun free tickets for the 22nd Oct, so I may head up that day now it's a later opening.

Well at least they saw sense in the end. You just have to question why on earth they made such a foolish decision in the first place. Will be interesting to see (if we do) their alternative cost cutting measure.

:)

It's a classic ploy used by politicians since the dawn of time: announce something that you know no one will like, give it a while to let the anger spread, then announce that you have listened to the will of the people want and won't do it after all.

Then when we go to scarefest and find it's even worse than last year again, people will say "yes, but at least they are open till 9pm, so that's something. They listened to us and they really care!"

::)

Well they've not fooled this enthusiast. I will still be taking my money elsewhere.

Looks very poor on their part to be honest, although given what they've "decided" in the past, I still hold out hope that they will reverse this decision. I trust someone from Merlin/Towers is reading this thread and can see public opinion :/

From Ride Rater's Facebook:

Alton Towers has reduced its opening times for its final week this year during 4-7 November from 5pm ride closes to 4pm.

I guess if they were going to add hours back on to Scarefest, something else was going to get cut in place. :p

That week is always a bit dead, it used to be adrenaline week (4pm close and limited rides) so it's not as big a cut as dropping scarefest hours.

I think it's a good trade off. Reduce times by an hour on a traditionally quiet days, rather than reduce 2 hours of darkness during a Halloween event.

There was also a strong rumour of increasing the last weeks of summer holidays to 7pm ride closes. These obviously haven't materialised.

Either way, far better this way. Keep summer at 6 (they never advertised that they intended higher closes), reduce ride close on that week when everyone's used to 4pms anyway. Keep the busy and successful scarefest at 9pm. Perfect for everyone.

EDIT: As long as sept/oct end up with 5pm ride closes that is. Imagine thats what we're all expecting there ;)

The term-time November weekdays have typically attracted as low as 3,000 people. A 4pm closure is justified providing ride capacities aren't cut too drastically to compensate. In 2010 and 2011 those weekdays were great days to visit the park.

I would be nice for 7pm summer closures this year, but I can't see it.

Hi, I've never been to scarefest before, but am planning to go this year, during the school holidays. Is it usually stupidly busy and what are the mazes like, I jump really easily, to the point I jumped half way around the london dungeons when I went. Just looking for some thoughts to be honest

Yes it is ridiculous! Last year we queued from 6-9pm for both paid mazes leqving us no time to go on any rides. That's why I'm so happy they have put the first week back to 9pm so I can go during a quieter time and have a nicer experience. Expect that week to make the park hit it's limit. And the mazes can be very scary. If you act scared there gonna pick on you haha!

Oh dear, I'm there for 3 days so hoping that in that time we will get rides done, especially as I have some free fasttracks from Smiler downtime at the beginning of the season, they didn't state they couldn't be used during scarefest. Sounds like I'm gonna be stuffed on the mazes :(
