Submission's replacement

"Over this closed season, much interest has been focussed on Alton Towers’s exciting developments in the construction of CBeebies Land, and in the ongoing maintenance work on The Smiler. However, this is no longer the only significant event in X Sector for the coming season, as TowersStreet can now reveal that Submission – a ride which has divided the opinions of enthusiast communities since opening – is being removed from the theme park for 2014.

Submission, made by Chance Rides, arrived in X Sector in 2001, replacing Energizer. In more recent years it is believed the ride has been plagued with technical issues, which may have been a factor in its closure. The ride has been unable to operate with both available arms for a number of years.

Alton Towers have stated that the closure is due to their long-term plans for the Resort, though as far as TowersStreet are aware no replacement is yet planned for its site, which will likely remain empty for the 2014 season.

TowersStreet will bring you more news on Submission’s closure as it arrives, until then you can discuss this over on our lively Talk forums!"

With the information above, I thought id start a new topic on Submissions Retirement and replacement.

Submission is a ride I was never fond of riding. Admittedly, the ride was impressive to look at along with Enterprise however, I am in hopeful spirits of something even better to take its place in the next year or two. I am surprised at the resort for taking the ride out before the 2014 season and not at the end!

Re: Submissions replacement

Remove a ride in a sector already overloaded especially with The Smilers reliability issues/queues.

Gosh. That is sensible.

Never rode it, wish I had now though at least once. It may have ridden crap, but people still used it, and I did love how it looked in fairness.

Safe to say, I think we will be looking at a new flat there next year, much needed - but I think unless they absolutely had to, to remove it this season is utter madness.

Re: Submissions replacement

I think the only thigs that will take Submissions place will be one of the following:

* HB Leisure stands
* A food outlet (would love to be Roast & Relish)
* Another shop of some sort

Merlin don't do flat rides. And it's hard to think of anything which could be put in its footprint.

Re: Submissions replacement

They won't ignore the thrill flat deficiency for much longer. The LTDP states that there will be a replacement thrill ride, and that any rides that are removed will be replaced. I'm also sure that they know that having only Enterprise, Ripsaw and the Blade as thrill flats in the entire park isn't really good enough.

Re: Submissions replacement

I would absolutely love a space themed simulator in X - Sector, although this would probably mean the removal of Enterprise in order for the space required.

Re: Submissions replacement

I hope its a decent thrill ride or if not something like a heavily themed maze :twirly: However, I rekon some form of shop or foodoutlet will go there! Its probably another way to cut costs -_-!!

Its going to look abit of a mess though with the fences etc still stood there yet nothing will be in it for a year!

Re: Submissions replacement

If we are lucky there may be a replacement in 2015. This is dependant on several things though. Is this a last minute decision to remove Submission? If so then a replacement for 2015 will not currently be budgeted for. Then it is dependent on whether or not Merlin can justify giving Towers the extra money for a replacement. Personally I wouldn't be surprised to see the site sitting empty for a few years.

I also think that any replacement will involve the removal of Enterprise. Then they would have more space to work with.

:)

Re: Submissions replacement

They probably haven't budgeted for 2015 yet, as a lot of it will be done to the success of CBeebies against the expected crowds...

I'm sure if CBeebies is a success, and the apparent planning of a family coaster in the works, they might do a 2012 and have a thrill and family ride opening simultaneously to satisfy both markets...

Re: Submissions replacement

There is a problem that most flat ride manufactures have either stopped making flat rides now or have a very limited range. It seems like themeparks are not buying them, so the manufactures have stopped making them.

Re: Submissions replacement

^ I know what you mean, Zamperla are very fairground, Huss almost went bankrupt, KMG are basic and then theirs S&S, but towers adding an air powered ride so close to ropers is surely suicide.

Re: Submissions replacement

Technical Park
Fabbri
Zierer
Intamin
Zamperla
SBF Visa
KMG
Mondial

There are a fair few out there...

Re: Submissions replacement

New flat in XS 2015, to replace Sub AND Ripsaw, and construction beginning on SW8 perhaps?

Oops. :-[

Re: Submissions replacement

I've yet to see a new flat ride added to any Merlin theme park.

If they did add something in Submission's place then I'll eat my hat.

But how many of them are actually making rides that would be suitable for a themepark, let alone Alton Towers?

Most of them are swinging rides or tower rides. Most of them are fairground models. Most just wouldn't be suitable at all. The only manufactures that would make a park type model are probably Intamin, Vekoma, Huss and maybe Mack, but if you look carefully at their ride portfolio, you will see that they don't make hardly any decent flat rides anymore.

All if the listed manufacturers make park models of their rides. :)
