Submission to be removed

I'm also going with the theory that they discovered something expensive to fix during winter maintenance/annual inspection and just decided to scrap it. I'll miss the look of it more than the ride itself, it's a shame they never got both arms working reliably as it looked really impressive when they ran together.

WillG - regarding flat rides from Thorpe - how about Quantum? A magic carpet would definitely fit there and it would be suitable for a younger audience whilst offering decent thrills.

How about something like this as a replacement?

And only 1 meter taller than Submission itself! ;)

Definitely looks like it could fit in well with X-Sector, and looks pretty thrilling to boot.

The 30 seater Pegasus can get through up to 1000 riders an hour, if the 16 seat model isn't enough.

If the park and others are against that type of flat ride, what about reconsidering robo arms? What about a combination of the Dueling Deadstars concept and one of the various robo arm ideas?

The thing is, whatever they buy, it needs to last! Most fairground rides work a few hours a day and only for a few days before getting packed up and shipped somewhere else. This would have to operate for a minimum of 7 hours a day, everyday, for 8 months a year, for several years!

Seriously people... We all know this will be made into an extended queue line for the smiler.

Queue line for the queue line. Send your boredom into Submission

One thing I will say about Submission is that way back when both arms worked, it looked awesome. Other than that, it won't be missed. I do hope they replace it with a new flat though. They could do worse than putting another Mondial Supernova in its place.

Flat rides are almost always run on terrible settings at parks as busy as Alton. Assuming they are all up to standard, I'd much rather the park continue in the vein of offering 'experiences', and more offbeat attractions.

That ride looks amazing. It may be too high though. Unless they built yet another hole in X - Sector. :/

HOPEFULLY something will fill the hole (I've just been running through Thorpe's various flats in my head trying to think if there's a cast-off that would fit the space, but drawn a blank...). One thing's sure though - so long as it's not a picnic area or pay-per-play attraction, it'll be better than Submision.

Slammer or Quantum would fit in the area.

Would be so amazing to see 1001 Nights return to Alton. And before you say - yes yes I know its too tall, but that was so much fun. Especially when it stopped at the very top and you had views of all around Alton.

Not supprised! But shame to lose another ride with no new flat rides looking to come. All the flat rides at Alton are dying, enterprise, ripsaw, blade. If there not a new one soon it will just be main roller coasters left.

During routine maintenance, the park engineers discovered something terribly wrong and were forced to seal the ride off from the public, before it was too late....

I feel a backstory coming on....

They will probably put some chains all over it to stop one of the arms falling off..... or something, then make a ride about it.

Or they can extent the oblivion queue round there and use the centre support as theming. Oblivion's queue is mostly themed with parts of old rides anyway. :p

Sadly true, just look at the way Thorpe run Vortex and Samurai.
I'm a big fan of extreme spin rides, but I won't be holding my breath for anything new. The best we can hope for in that space is a new shop selling fastrack.

Would it be worth merging this thread with the Submission replacement thread? They seem to be covering the same ground.

I'm not a big fan of flat rides because the majority are just a variation on spinning and make me sick (never rode Submission but now wish I'd given it a go). The only flats I really like are drop towers and simulators. I do like Maelstrom at Drayton though.

I've been trying to think of flats that get decent size queues (and not just for capacity reasons). I've queued over an hour for Maelstrom before...and Rush at Thorpe. I am not sure if there would be height issues with either of those though.

I've not been to Drayton for years so I'm not sure how it's doing now really, but haven't they invested time/money quite heavily in the Thomas Land area, and are now pushing a thrill flat ride? I wonder how it will do for them and if Alton will follow suit in a year or so?

What is the footprint made by Submission and what really could fit in that space that *wasn't* a stall? If you're not into flats there's not much reason to go down to that corner of X-Sector anyway, surely stalls would be better placed on main thoroughfares?
