Essentially, they create models based on what would need restrictions; this is because were a scenario to arise where restrictions aren’t needed, such a model would be useless. The problem is there are a lot of people who think Sage model a wider range than they do. This isn’t down to any...

    Coronavirus

Stating a lockdown makes people ‘unhappy’ severely underplays the impact it has on people’s lives. Bringing in another lockdown, when we have the vaccines and the treatments, isn’t just a ‘ruined Christmas’. It’ll be the end for many people’s businesses. The toll on mental health will be...

    Coronavirus

Whilst I don’t have the most up-to-date statistics, ethnicity is almost certainly a factor. According to an NHS study from February, black communities are the most likely to be historically hesitant to vaccinate...

    Coronavirus

Omicron has by far been the most surreal part of the pandemic for me. Viruses mutate, it’s what they do. But this is always met with a weird level of surprise and each mutation is considered the biggest threat we’ve faced yet. But from everything we know, omicron is mild. South Africa hasn’t...

I think that’s most likely. Of course, we’re unlikely to ever get the full truth because…y’know, the CCP.

The idea of the government bringing in such a controversial, illiberal and divisive policy as vaccine passports as a way to distract from their own scandal would be too stupid to be real - except that’s what we’re seeing in real time.

    Coronavirus

There’s no need to be so condescending. Like I’ve said, I’ve already had two jabs. I’m low risk and in good health, so I’m going to ‘take my chances’ with not having more jabs. Sorry, but I don’t think vaccine mandates are the ‘right side of history’ at all. I don’t believe people’s freedoms...

Side-effects from both jabs forced me to take time off work. This is one of the reasons I won’t be having a booster. But the real concern is how this could tie in with (what almost feels inevitable at this point) the prospect of vaccine passports or mandatory vaccinations - both of which have...

The Hotels: A deep-seated culture of mediocrity

Just noticed the ‘sausages’ in Ian’s photo. God they’ve gone downhill. I remember the good old days where they actually looked (and were) decent.

Totally Drag - Event and Convention - 7th May 2022

Yeah I should’ve clarified I’m talking about the hotels, not the park itself.

    Duel 30th Anniversary Celebration?

I don’t remember Towers doing anything to commemorate any of the rides of the Tussauds era outside of Nemesis, so this will come and go without mention. Duel has been decreasing in quality for a long time so it’s probably for the best that they keep it quiet.

Totally Drag - Event and Convention - 7th May 2022

I couldn’t imagine Towers putting on a decent drag show with the current state of on-resort entertainment.

There was one singer who clearly didn’t know the words to Come On Eileen (apart from “Come On Eileen”).

    Mardi Gras & Oktoberfest 2021

I didn’t get to drink much at Oktoberfest because I was driving, but the event felt very well put together and is absolutely the kind of thing Towers needs to do a lot more of. Entertainment seemed naff but in all honesty the atmosphere was good enough to negate that.

The Hotels: A deep-seated culture of mediocrity

Last time I stayed at the hotels was for opening 2019. The early closure of all the bars is probably the defining memory of that trip (“All that she wants/is another beverage/after 11!”). Whilst I understand they'll go for the Covid excuse, I’m honestly surprised this hasn’t become enough of a...

    Controversial Alton Towers Opinions

The Graham Smart tracks also have a *lot* of nostalgia attached to them, because Towers was a very different place back them. I listen to these tunes a lot myself for that very reason. I dislike the new Gloomy Woods track, but the music I’ve heard on Towers Street is pretty good.
