The exterior has always been ugly whether the ride was open or not. It really is no wonder it was not popular and closed as the outside theming is some of the blandest and laziest of any Merlin project. Literally nothing to entice people in. Has anyone ever given thought to the idea of a brand new purpose built water park at Alton Towers?

The Monorail (and Towers Street) are an integral part of the Alton Towers 'experience'. Losing one or both of them would badly damage the parks already weakened image as a big player. The park needs a monorail even if it means replacing both the existing rolling stock and the track/rails.

It looks great! Credit where credit is due. Seems they have learned at least some lessons....marketing aside.

The park had been in terminal decline for over a decade prior to the Smiler crash. I remember the threads on the forums in 2011 during the first round of Merlins budget cuts. It has never really recovered since then and has been on a downward slope as far as quality is concerned.

I think it's about time they gave up on themed areas as none of them save Katanga and Gloomy Wood (the only two Merlin haven't touched) are distinguishable as anything other than some rides with lazy themes cobbled together. Galactica? Rita? Spinball? SW8? Those rides make up (or will make up)...

Apart from the neglect all the bad things about exterior of Duel are the things that were added in 2003....the cheap zombie animatronic, the tacked on shop extension spoiling the original gothic one, horrid green and blue signs.... The maintenance of the gardens has definitely fallen however...
