I really enjoy Colossus and even ignoring theming/landscaping I would rank it as either 2nd but probably 3rd best coaster at Thorpe Park.
However I found that the make or break factor for my enjoyment of it entirely depended where you sat. In the front few rows I found it second only to front...
I don't think theme park food in general needs to be particularly high quality but what I don't expect to be is completely ripped off for really poor quality food.
I think the most important thing about F&B at theme parks apart from the convenience aspect is the presentation of the food and...
In fairness with better trains and a refurbished track Colossus could be a brilliant ride again.
It is second only to Nemesis in terms of its landscaping, theme music and the way it interacts with its environment and clone or no clone it's a decent length coaster with a good layout.
Certainly...
The food outlets on park are generally dire - in terms of choice, quality and price.
It's a huge shame because back in 2010 they were arguably the best they had ever been after several years of steady improvement.
The fast food outlets in particular are nothing more than cheap knock offs of...
The exterior has always been ugly whether the ride was open or not. It really is no wonder it was not popular and closed as the outside theming is some of the blandest and laziest of any Merlin project. Literally nothing to entice people in. A shame really because I actually really enjoyed SubTerra.
I am usually one of the biggest whingers on these forums regarding the quality of new developments at this park (and with good reason the majority of the time) but for once I am impressed and pleasantly surprised with a development at Alton Towers.
I know you can build a woodie just about...
The Monorail (and Towers Street) are an integral part of the Alton Towers 'experience'.
Losing one or both of them would badly damage the parks already weakened image as a big player.
The park needs a monorail even if it means replacing both the existing rolling stock and the track/rails.
Dont forget Storm Dirge!
Edit: Just realised you're listing their staff intensive crap attractions rather than just their outright crap attractions......my bad!
The park had been in terminal decline for over a decade prior to the Smiler crash.
I remember the threads on the forums in 2011 during the first round of Merlins budget cuts.
It has never really recovered since then and has been on a downward slope as far as quality is concerned.
Wickerman?!
The coaster looks great as it is but now they want to apply another cliched dark theme to a ride this time in the shape of some pagen nonsense.
What relevance will this have to anything around it?
It's a family woodie, why not have a fun lighthearted theme? No doubt there will be...
Can't believe I'm saying this but I honestly think SW8 would be best without any theming at all.
Just the fact it is a wooden coaster with a largely wooden station allows it to fit simultaneously with Mutiny Bay and Katanga without clashing with either of them, much like the original log flume...
Tussauds developed a brand new themed area every year between 1992 and 1999 with associated new rides faithful to each theme and by the time Charterhouse bought the park it was world class quality (for the time) save for a few small patchy areas.
Bearing in mind the vast majority of the...
I think it's about time they gave up on themed areas as none of them save Katanga and Gloomy Wood (the only two Merlin haven't touched) are distinguishable as anything other than some rides with lazy themes cobbled together.
Galactica?
Rita?
Spinball?
SW8?
Those rides make up (or will make up)...
Apart from the neglect all the bad things about exterior of Duel are the things that were added in 2003....the cheap zombie animatronic, the tacked on shop extension spoiling the original gothic one, horrid green and blue signs....
The maintenance of the gardens has definitely fallen however...
