If they get permission to build a park & have a LOTR area or even better a LOTR second gate then they will have one of the most popular parks on the planet! Millions will travel from all over the world to see that.
I expect it is. I don’t think they would have bought the land if they didn’t think they’re in with a good shout of getting permission. Even if they can sell it on without losing much money.
They’ll be being very careful what they say though as the next several months will be all about trying to...
I hope you’re right. Even with all the buildings Universal could probably make that area environmentally better off & more beautiful than the current mix of concrete & big open fields.
I’d be surprised if it doesn’t get support of local & national government. A huge multi-billion multi-national company is literally asking for permission to pour $100Ms into your economy, they’d be mad to say no.
Nimbys will play on the environment card big time though, that’ll be the problem.
I get that but that’s where Merlin would have to up their game. Not just in terms of rides but resort infrastructure & advertising to tempt those tourists booking their trip to Universal GB to make the trip to them too.
That’s the way I’d want to play it anyway if I were in charge at Merlin...
I think if this goes ahead the biggest loser will be AT. At the moment people travel from all over the UK to go to AT as it’s considered the best park in the country. If Universal GB opens with a good selection of rides well themed to great IPs such as LOTR & Bond then those trips to AT will...
This is hugely exciting. I just hope they can navigate it through our ridiculous planning system without too much cost & lost time. I noticed they claim it to be a 500 acre site. Is anybody able to put that into context regarding other top parks? Basically how much will they be able to pack in...
I haven’t read all the posts here so apologies if this has been said but I’d thought I’d throw my two pennies worth in. My first thoughts when I saw the plans were that it looks like an arena. So I’m thinking this could have a music theme. If they can get the rights to some of the best British...
This is very exciting. It’s great to see them wanting to bring this currently wasted large space back into use. Surely it’ll be a whole new land with a flagship ride & a couple of support rides e.g. Jumanji at Chessington. The potential is huge. Can’t wait to find out more.
Well that would explain why a park that should be all over launch technology only has one. The cost of upgrading the power infrastructure to the park would probably be astronomical too.
I agree that I think SW9 will be one of those 3 coaster types. Either way I’d bet my house on it being a multi-launch coaster. I can’t believe AT doesn’t have one already given their tight planning restrictions regarding height.
I do remember seeing it on the news but didn’t realise they had to fight that hard to get it overturned. You’d think the southern end of the park would have the least restrictions as it’s the furthest from residents & closet to the motorway.
I can really see Paultons next major investment being a water ride to replace the current flume. Compared to the current offering of UK family water rides it’d be easy to build the best one whether it’s flume, rapids or coaster.
Also does anybody know the deal with the field to the south of...
I do hear you on the not another dark themed ride/area argument. I just really think if anywhere should have that theme it should be the area next to the Towers. I’d quite happily see Dark Forest get a re theme to something else to compensate.
Right I thought I’d give this a go. It’s obviously completely unrealistic as Merlin would never invest this heavy year after year but it’s what I feel AT needs it’s to compete for the #1 park in europe which it’s what Merlins aim should be with a site that big.
‘23 - Duel ride system removed &...
The poster that came out with EXODUS on it & what appeared to be a man flying or maybe floating in a woodland setting. My first thought was a launched flyer through the woods. And then the other day somebody in MMM posted a tweet of Peter Pan (sorry I can’t remember their name but saw it on CF)...
