I didn't think that either of the Dragon Challenge Coasters were anything special. Perhaps I've been spoilt by Nemesis, but all B&M inverts seem to pale in comparison. I'm not overly sad to see them scrapped, especially when you look at the size of area they take up - it could be used well in...
It seems bizarre that on the one hand we've got partial park closures, but on the other new developments including a hotel. I can only hope that this is a one off 'cost saving year' and we will be back to 'normal service' next year.
But...
Test track was great before the new layover. It seem's to have lost its 'point' now.
The frozen layover looks great. The capacity issues will haunt this ride - the old version used to get hour long waits for what was fairly uninspiring. This will be abysmal!
Visited Thorpe Park for the first time today. I'd sort of formed my own opinions of the park, based on what I've read on this forum (and similar) over the years.
Having seen it first hand, it's such an odd park to describe! Seems to have created problems that Alton Towers could never have (lack...
Could you really see Alton Towers paying for The Smiler again? It's becoming Merlins 'white elephant'. If a few pieces of track need to be replaced, sure - but if something as severe as a complete re-track was needed then I can't see it happening. I can imagine bosses would see cutting their...
We really must stop naming all the places in Alton Towers that haven't yet got a fence. Odds on there being a fence in this location in the next 2 weeks?
Fair enough - I didn't state what I think this ride will be. Let me be clear - I think that this looks like a wooden rollercoaster, we know that Alton Towers were planning one (and it wouldn't be beyond the realms of probability that they still have an agreement with a manufacturer. Having...
I did not mean "like for like" with respect to the ride choice - merely target audience. It is possible to maintain the target audience whilst changing ride type. If Alton Towers want to go for a 'Seven Dwarfs' type coaster that appeals to children and adults alike I have no issues with that - a...
I'm pleased its not in the woods. The tree felling is always an issue with local conservationists and the number of trees removed in order to get the track in makes the area look bare for years. We all hoped that Thirteen would interact with its surroundings more but its taken nearly 6 years for...
The Screening Opinion Request is an interesting read. In summary:
Development includes ride building, shop, games unit and food kiosk - fairly standard
Number of tunnels proposed to reduce noise impact.
Three themed features to be incorporated into the ride design (max height 15 metres)
70-80...
The park needs a like for like replacement for the flume in term of its target audience - a ride for all of the family. A compact wooden coaster, or something similar, with a low height restriction, would be great. I'm not clamoring for another water ride. A coaster seems most sensible.
Looking...
For the first time in years Alton Towers have surprised me with the quality of this project. I know there's lots of things to do, but this is a damn good start.
Look forward to it continuing next closed season! Hope odds and ends get done whilst the park is open too, as it would be sad to see...
Sorry - my mistake. If it was anything like Poseidon's Fury I would be over the moon. It's a pity that it wouldn't fit Merlins 'identity'. That said, if Derren Browns Ghostrain works then the chance of there being a walk through attraction increases.
Interesting what you said about Journey to...
Out of interest - is the lake a 'natural' or protected feature? If it is within the General Development Order, and they decided to fill the lake in - could they?
I'm just thinking of how they reclaimed land at Thorpe Park (I believe).
Nor the height allowance. A water / coaster hybrid would be great as long as it isn't as painful as Poseidon's Fury at Seaworld Orlando. I'm not at all familiar with newer water rides in all honesty - have there been any recent exciting developments?
