Wicker Man - General Discussion - Part Two

Am I the only person who cringes when someone refers to the Wicker Man themeing structure as 'Big Bob'? Just because the staff gave it such a naff, unimaginative nickname doesn't mean that people have to act like sheep and use the same name.

Wicker Man - General Discussion - Part Two

Really enjoyed Wicker Man today. Much wilder than it looks and the experience as a whole is amazing! A truly worthy addition to the park.

Wicker Man - General Discussion - Part Two

I'd be miffed if they kept it closed purely so next Saturday's 'official' opening (how many do they need?) had more impact.

Wicker Man - General Discussion - Part Two

Well let's hope it's Tuesday when I'm there. They've already got my money so can't change the date now.

2018: Wicker Man - General Discussion - SPOILERS! - Part One

Back in the 80s and 90s when me and my chums were riding coasters, we'd refer to boring corners as a Tea and Tarts Corner. The idea being that the coaster was so sedate at that point, you could probably serve high tea while you were waiting for the next exciting bit. Examples were; that turn...

2018: Wicker Man - General Discussion - SPOILERS! - Part One

Yay, I'm going to be riding on it a week on Tuesday where hopefully it won't have much of a queue. I must admit that the Wicker Man project has felt like the five stages of grief. Firstly, denial that the plans seen were the final product. Then anger that after all these years of waiting for a...

2018: Wicker Man - General Discussion - SPOILERS! - Part One

I was hoping he'd have disappeared from the online community long ago, but sadly his presence is back. Personally, I don't forget his homophobic comments some years back on Rideas, regarding the idea of naked riders on Air (the record ultimately happened on Nemesis). A dreadful ambassador for...

2018: Wicker Man - General Discussion - SPOILERS! - Part One

Have we definitely ruled out World's First Stand-up wooden rollercoaster? I'm assuming there isn't already such a beast in existence. Not as I'd be particularly happy about that, but it's the only thing now that I can think of that would earn it its SW status. The change in lift-hill incline...

    Black Hole

Yep, the inside was rethemed in '96 (with awesome mist inside), but the canopy wasn't rethemed on the outside until '98. I still pine for the Black Hole and hope AT have an indoor, dark thrill coaster at some point in the future.

2018: Wicker Man - General Discussion - SPOILERS! - Part One

Thing is, the map just doesn't accidentally happen. For whatever reason, the map artist(s) have clearly listed the SW8 development under Gloomy Wood. One assumes they're told what to create and don't just assume anything themselves. And if they know the park and did assume, then they'd just...

Is it time to rethink the SW series?

The great thing about SW8 is that we don't yet know what it is that warrants the SW tag. Every SW so far has offered something new, unique to the country and/or Worlds First, so I see no reason to doubt SW8 will have the same and I'm so happy we don't know it yet. I like that they still use the...

    Galactica: General Discussion

We're Alton Towers. You will enjoy our attractions how WE see fit, not how you as a paying visitor want to enjoy them. Your enjoyment is on our terms. We dictate to you what you want.

1986 Park Guide Map & Quiz

Thanks for this. Interesting that it seems there were ultimately three versions of the 1986 leaflet. First one had the same photos as yours, but the map was an updated version of the 1984/5 maps. Then this one with the new (not brilliant) map. And later on in the season, this new map with a...

    PS4 or Xbox One

Just a quickie. Finally bought a PS4 yesterday from Game and love it apart from the noise of the fan. After a while, it sounds like a vacuum cleaner. Watching a DVD/Blu-Ray movie is difficult cos the fan over-rides the sound on the TV. And I thought the 360 fan was loud. So is this normal?

    Was Jesus Gay?

Be nice if they uncovered some 'found-footage' of Jesus just generally Messiah-ing.

    Fake mayor open's Alton Towers

I see Cllr Jon Tandy a lot during my working week and he's a really nice, friendly chap. Not nice to make fun of the guy's physical look, though. I hope he wasn't too offended.

    New Fencing at Alton Towers

Well there we are. Nothing we can do. You know, next time I'm at the park, having a blast on The Smiler, Oblivion, Nemesis, Air, Rita, Th13teen and all the other attractions that I love at Alton Towers, I'll look at this fence and it'll fair spoil my day, I'm sure. Every time I go to Alton...
