    2016: Air - Re-theme to VR Coaster - Galactica

The VR won't be a video, otherwise its not quite VR, it will be like a game, where your movement is controlled by the actual coaster. Picture a virtual camera that moves as the wearer does. By the sounds of what AT have said, I would assume you can't take the headsets off, they seem fixed to...

    2016: Air - Re-theme to VR Coaster - Galactica

I would imagine it would work in a similar way to EP's tests, where the revolutions of the wheels on the train are monitored in conjunction with track position sensors to determine position and speed, this data would then be passed into the VR simulation to ensure sync. If it isn't done this...

    Incident on The Smiler 02/06/2015

I doubt it's related to the 'accidentally reversed' theory as its the wrong lift, plus the ride has been sat there not operating for a while now, they're probably just checking absolutely everything.

    TowersTastic Summer: Marketing

Once again a beautiful con of a prize! Unlimited fastrack sounds great, however as its only for one person, you may as well just use Single Rider Queues!

    Incident on The Smiler 02/06/2015

Unless there are two trains stacked before the load/unload area, the fifth train is still adding a little to throughput. If only the one train is stacked, then you're saving the time between dispaches that would be used waiting for the 4th train, so a slight throughput improvement.

    Incident on The Smiler 02/06/2015

Surely, if the ride system did everything it could have done and was not the cause of the incident, then why not use Gerst again? There's no evidence so far that the system/hardware didn't do it's job!

    Incident on The Smiler 02/06/2015

I was on park yesterday and was surprised by the level of crowds! Seemed to be multiple school trips but park was fairly busy, most rides averaging a 30mins wait, Rita and Oblivion seemed (according to Ride Times) to be on 40mins all day? Doesn't seem like many have been put off going?

Does anyone know of any 50% off tickets this year, not 2 for 1? There was quite a few last year from what I remember?

    Incident on The Smiler 02/06/2015

Not quite true, in both cases (launched or not) you're true in stating the change in Kinetic Energy is (without taking friction/other energy wastage into account) equal to change in GPE, however the initial kinetic energy will also have an impact (up until terminal velocity) 0.5m(v^2 - u^2) =...

    Incident on The Smiler 02/06/2015

Seeing as they had just been sending test trains around after a technical issue, is it possible that tech services would still be inside or part way through leaving, never making it outside to see the stalled train? I would be very surprised if the system doesn't automatically detect additions...

    Incident on The Smiler 02/06/2015

Because, you have 5 trains to get round, not all can fit in the station/final brake run, you can't wait for every empty train to come back because you'd be there infinitely. They're only mentioning the one empty train, but I wouldn't be surprised if they'd sent multiple trains round without...

    Incident on The Smiler 02/06/2015

As stated above, the train stopped on a lift section for around 10 minutes before continuing, plus it is extremely unlikely for a braking failure to occur, in addition, all break sections on the smiler's main circuit (with exception of those before the station) are immediately before a lift section.

I agree, and that's why I believe that as ever, the simplest solution is the best, before any override have 2/3 confirmation points from which all of the ride is visible, if all ops give all clear after visual check, override.

    Incident on The Smiler 02/06/2015

I agree that's why I proposed (if not in place already) a 2 or more factor confirmation system, so buttons dotted around e.g ride entrance so staff get at least 2 visual confirmations before a manual block reset

    Incident on The Smiler 02/06/2015

That seems to be the case, I would hope though that it isn't and if it is, feel very bad for the members of staff involved. They really need a 2 (or more) factor confirmation for manually resetting the block system if they don't already. Just another button on the brake section, or by the...

    Incident on The Smiler 02/06/2015

The smiler has broken down/required an evac on the first lift hill before (e.g. during the celeb preview), they evaced on the lift hill and didn't bring the train back down. So I'd expect that the theory of stopped for 10 mins before attempting to bring the train back down is incorrect. The...

    New Website

I do web design and development, and whilst I know exactly what they were going for, I really dislike this! It just doesn't seem finished? They've clearly focussed on mobile first design and just forgotten that desktops (or even tablets) exist (Evident by the lack of use of screen real-estate on...

    Merlin Annual Pass

Thing is, as only you have one, you may as well just use single riders queue, still shouldn't be too much longer than fast rack and considerably smaller than full queue!
