The summer holidays are one of the busiest periods of the year - so it really baffles me that there is pretty much nothing announced on-site or online (apart from a rather bland 30-second teaser video).
You need to get people excited about it, tell them whilst they are visiting. You'll have...
I was reading up about this a few months ago. Apparently, it's all very political and there are a lot of hoops to jump through. Thus far the timeline it's taken to get to the current point it's taken nearly 15 years, so I don't think we'll see anything in a hurry.
I'm sure a big project will be...
I also think, because of its proximity to the New Forest, planning in the area is a lot more difficult - so I do think height may well be an issue there.
I do get your point and it is certainly possible to relocate coasters - but Rita is more fitting for somewhere like Thorpe and not a family park like Chessington.
BUT, I may have to eat my hat, as if you'd told me a couple of years ago there would be a B&M at Chessington, I would have laughed...
There is more theming in that one set of toilets in Phantasialand than in the entirety of the UK's theme park toilets put together.
Do we need themed toilets - no, but do we want them, yes!
That's why Phantasialand is one of my favourite parks - they don't have to, but they do.
I'd be willing to put my life savings (all £2.11 of them) on them not relocating Rita. Rita is an old roller coaster, and is constantly under strain due to the speeds it goes - I would be surprised if it has 10 years left in it.
Also (and more to the point) it is not at all in line with the...
It will 100% be a Halloween-only attraction in 3 years. I'm willing to put my life savings on it. Just rip it all out and stick a coaster in the building, give the people what they want!
I'm willing to put money on 3 years of operation before going to a Fright Nights only thing - before it dies a death - much like the escape rooms and I'm A Celeb.
It's a decent-sized building, so pop a nicely themed Intamin Multi-Dimension Coaster in there and we'll get off your case Thorpe ;)
I don't want come in being on negative on a Friday afternoon - BUT...
The whole Merlin group seems to have been a chaotic mess this season. I've been going to these parks for over 20 years, and the first opening week is always a bit of a mess, but that week has turned into months - and with...
I've been looking on their website at the pricing,
Here are a couple of examples;
Saturday 19th August
Hotel Grand Curiosa - £175.00 Bed & Breakfast
Alton Towers Hotel - £256.00 Bed & Breakfast
Based on 2 adults
Sunday 15th October
Hotel Grand Curiosa - £115.00 Bed & Breakfast
Alton Towers...
It's Liseberg through and through - top class 👏
I'm sure it's going to be the cost of a small family car to stay here for the night - but at least it's going to be worth it.
The whole thing seems like a big waste of money and resources. Surely they could have used the scaffolding to prop up something else that's falling down - they've got plenty of options to choose from ;)
I for one have never heard of a strike in a theme park, and I've been an enthusiast for over 20 years. Please correct me if I'm wrong!
Fair play to them for taking steps.
I wonder if the other engineering teams at other Merlin parks will follow suit? I would be worried if I was at Merlin head...
I am truly surprised that they've spent the money on removing it. It can't be a cheap exercise and all that money will be coming off the park's future development budget. On the other hand, I'm sure they were sick of people asking when's it opening - so at least that doesn't need answering anymore!
Just being curious - was there ever an official announcement of its closure, or did it just not open with the park in the 2016 season, never to operate again?
If you gave people the option of
A - Shiny new roller coaster or
B - Splurging cash on a fairly average boat ride
I'm pretty sure you know what the response will be.
It's history, it can be looked back on fondly, but technology and standards far surpass what was there. I remember riding it...
