    Incident on The Smiler 02/06/2015

I have just come back from a 4 day trip to AT, it is the first time I have seen the smiler since the accident, and I must admit, seeing it not operating is quite an unusual and a powerful feeling knowing what has happened, it almost feels like it's doing time! - Anyway, one thing I really think...

Currently standing down the bottom of the smiler, they have been inspecting the track with the cherry picker, currently parking it up and having a conversation.

    Incident on The Smiler 02/06/2015

I am not sure if this has been said but with regards to the 999 call, the media is missing the point here. If someone just phoned 999 after seeing the accident, the emergency services would most likely contact Alton Towers security on a pre arranged number, there is no point in ambulances...

    Incident on The Smiler 02/06/2015

Unlikely, doesn't saw only have one lift hill? The Smiler is different with two lift hills, they can control more cars at one given time.

    Incident on The Smiler 02/06/2015

Although we probably will never know the full details, the problem is going to be in the computer system / sensor / lift hill areas, the cars will most likely be covered tonight and inspected tomorrow, then eliminated from the investigation pretty quickly, they could be off the track by the end...

Sky saying that the seriously injured people do not have life threatening injuries, this is good news for all involved.

This ride will be closed for months following this, and will probably have a reduced number of cars on at any one time.

    Incident on The Smiler 02/06/2015

I am speculating which is probably not a good idea, but I think someone has made a cockup here, the system has, from reports, known there was a problem, but someone / something has moved the ride on after stopping. Possible software system, likely human error. Put into perspective, how many...

    Incident on The Smiler 02/06/2015

They can run without sand/water containers, when the Smiler was first built there was a lot of adjustment and wheel changes to make the ride work, planning and space restricted this ride so much, it is on the edge of physics when it comes to getting those cars around the track, conditions need...

    Incident on The Smiler 02/06/2015

There is a lot of bandwagon jumping, some of the tweets are shocking, this will all calm down soon, and we can learn exactly what has happened, I feel sorry for Alton Towers staff, someone is going to be responsible for this. This may be the price we pay for such high throughput.

    Incident on The Smiler 02/06/2015

Sometimes it is normal for them to send around an empty car, as others have said, the weather may have caused some trains to go through certain points slower than normal, so they decided to send around an empty car which would tell the operators if wind was a problem. It does look like either...

Sky News coverage can be so pointless sometimes, they must pay thousands for the 'sky copter' to be there, yet they are going on about completely different stories.

    General Hotel Discussion

I'm actually in the hotel at the moment and haven't been for a year, shocked to see what they have done with flambos. Not a fan anymore ! The selection has also been reduced and it seems like the quality has also.

[The Smiler] Construction Updates / Ride Speculation Part 2 *SPOILER FREE*

Re: [The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2 I know it sounded daft when I typed it, coax has a plastic core though which is why it coils like that, electronic cable would have some kinks in it unless it was super high quality which I doubt would be used.

[The Smiler] Construction Updates / Ride Speculation Part 2 *SPOILER FREE*

Re: [The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2 Electrical cable doesn't coil like that, coaxail has a plastic core (along with other elements) - 100% coax that is.

[The Smiler] Construction Updates / Ride Speculation Part 2 *SPOILER FREE*

Re: [The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2 I am thinking the same thing, but it is an extra 'element' really.

[The Smiler] Construction Updates / Ride Speculation Part 2 *SPOILER FREE*

Re: [The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2 Those dishes will definitely do something, they are properly wired with coaxail cable. Perhaps beaming basic signals from different parts of the ride to trigger the marmaliser effects?

    Resort niggles

I haven't really had many complaints about the place recently, only when I fell in Cariba Creek on their slippy flooring! - I have noticed that they are reducing the hotel perks, like the nice shower gel you used to get, I am sure the kids used to get a little more as well. In the Legoland...
