Apart from when the scanners fail to recognise your MAP on the first go, ultimately slowing everything right down.

I wonder if they will add these to where express parking is and hotel parking. Only issue is currently at express parking the barrier just opens as you get to it as you don't get a ticket if you park there. And same applies to hotel and waterpark as hotel guests don't get a ticket either, but I suppose they could issue hotel guests were car park ticket instead of the normal bit of paper they have.

Which still won't be much slower than waiting for the staff to come over and open a barrier for an AP on the old system.

Gotta admit here that if these thongs actually work. (and lets face it, they might not) I think ill miss the human contact of the pressy button person there.

The magic is secretly hiding inside the a Gothic Prospect Tower, waiting to be unleashed after the renovation.

The new barriers scan quicker and will accept tickets from both the machines and from Box Office/Sales & Info booths. Massive improvement, a lot easier to monitor revenue, nowt to do with staff cutting :)

Though it will lead to a reduction in staffing of a couple of people, yes? Not that I care, it's just that there can be (and probably is) more than one reason why they'd do this - it's not either/or :)

The biggest reason will be the old system was falling apart, if the system offered them any major financial benefit from staff saving they would have done it years ago when Thorpe got them. The capex that has been spent on the new system will probably take years to claw back on staff savings.

There are a multitude of reasons but at present that isn't one :)

That the old system was falling over?

So last seasons constant sight of ticket machines offering "a million apologies" was co-incidental?

From what I heard they had very little choice but to get a new system. The two machines in the monorail station got removed last year as they used all the parts to fix the four on Towers Street. Then last year all four of them broke. There was a stage towards the end of the season when only two worked and they would only accept coins. By Scarefest all of them were out of service and you had to buy tickets at the pay kiosks.

Hopefully with the new barriers we will see new ticket machines back in the monorail station as well as the entrance area.

Until gradually, one breaks and each one is cannibalised for parts until they're all inevitably useless.

Hopefully not this time, the new barriers are Skidata so hopefully they will also produce the ticket machines. And Skidata produce no end of ticket machines (your local NCP carpark is probably full of them). So they should be able to get parts for a long time!

Cant believe we are discussing these new car parking barrier machines with some degree of excitement. I hate the ruddy things, they have no place in a theme park which charges over £50 per person to go inside then another £6 just to park the ruddy car when there are no viable public transport or park and ride options nearby.

Just be thankful it's not an American theme park where parking is $17 (£11)!

I didn't think this was worth putting in a different topic (apologies if it should have been, mods), but this Big 6 Challenge is quite interesting, albeit a bit confusing.

So is all you have to do ride all the SWs + Rita and you get a free return ticket? Seems very easy to do. Surely there's some more Ts & Cs coming our way.

I've not really seen much about it but it probably is just as simple as that. Chances are there will be a lot of people that won't know about it/won't claim the free return ticket. Then if it gets someone to come back to the park later in the year that otherwise wouldn't have, maybe bring a few other friends who pay, then it's win win for Towers. Said person would be likely to spend again on food, merch, parking etc.

    :)
