If that's the case I hope those people find permanent work with their new employers.

I wonder if the park will even survive this. Look at 2015, they barely scraped through then, and that was when they still had some people visiting. Months of them not being open, potentially into the summer? Could cripple them.

They will need good staff...lets hope they retain them.

This situation i think should highlight the need to treat your staff fairly. Companies who do will reap the rewards with people committed to helping the company move through (genuine) hard times.

But they have already got most punters season pass money.
Merlin are in a better position that way, they lose the secondary sale and extra gate money, but they have had a solid pre season income from passes.

So...what about the people with passes. If the season doesn't start until summer or later we have no where near as much time to visit. Don't think I'll get the value out of it this year.

But isn’t a pass the same price as a day ticket. Only need two visits then it’s payed for itself

What I meant was, as a business in the industry, at least they have had a revenue stream this year.
I imagine passes will be frozen, either on demand or automatically.

It's interesting how the different theme parks are dealing with the coronavirus. Rather cleverly, the London Resort made sure they wouldn't get affected, by not actually building anything.

We might not be able to be on park today but that doesn't mean we can't start celebrating Alton Towers' 40th Birthday.

Over in the Talbot Street forum for the next while we're going to be hosting our Talbot Street Lock In, bringing a whole host of content on the past 40 Years of Alton Towers.

Many of the staff at Alton Towers are probably on a low number of hours and then get more hours when the park is busier, so they might be contracted for 20 hours but regularly working 40 in school holiday. 80% of a 20 hour contract is not a lot so I'm sure they would be happy if another job could make up the rest of the hours.

Zero hours contrActs should be made illegal after this has settled down

I believe that, whatever the contracted hours were beforehand, most/all hourly paid staff have this week been knocked down to zero hours :-/

thst would mean a change in the terms and conditions of the job and can’t just be done. They are either on a zero hours contract or a fixed number of hours plus overtime. Can’t be changed without effectively a new job being made.

Yep, you can't just be 'knocked down to' a zero hour contract, you are either on one or you are not.

“Knocked down” was a poor choice of words on my part. What I meant was that all these staff have had their terms of employment changed from whatever guaranteed hours they were on, to zero hour. Their contracts have literally been changed.
