Bear Grylls Adventure Birmingham and LDC Birmingham

I was reading something about SW8 and I came across this. The article talks about a legoland coming to Birmingham to increase family vistors around the city.
There are going to be attractions like:
  • 4D Cinema
  • Kingdom Quest Laser Ride
  • Driving School
This seems intresting as there is already an abundance of parks nearby already. The attraction hoping to open in 2018 with planning application being submitted in December 2016.
Discuss.

This would be a Legoland Discovery Centre rather than a theme park. Great for Birmingham if it does go ahead though, it would no doubt be a popular attraction.

:)

It's actually only in a minimal of the centres, only Dallas and Manchester that I know of (I believe there's one more that slips my mind as well).

It also fails to feature in any of the most recent centres, and the higher ups in management aren't a fan of the concept.

Similar does not mean the same.

With another Merlin attraction confirmed I have now renamed the thread. Intresting to see Merlin investing in a skydiving attraction, maybe it will trend like flipout did or maybe there are other plans to build more or these in places like London, Manchester and Blackpool. I guess we will have to wait and see.

Is the NEC really a good place to build such an attraction? Like, most of the time people come for whatever event(s) on and go straight home, can't be much call for an entertainment centre of high ropes and skydiving for those who have to do 3 day events...

Bit of a way out of central Birmingham on the train or by car, putting it next to sea life would have been a good move but I don't think there's any room for expansion...

The NEC is sensible.

It is:
  • Next to Resorts World (outlet mall / casino / hotels)
  • Next to the rail station with easy access to Birmingham, Coventry, London and more
  • Next to the airport
  • An area of growing tourism
The city centre probably doesn't have anywhere appropriate; however I am sure that the Sea Life will start to offer combi-tickets.

Being based at the NEC will also allow the LDC to tap into Bricklive, seeing as it's the largest U.K. Lego convention.

Merlin definetly seem confident in pairing LDC's with arenas in the UK as it stands.

The LDC will be underneath the Barclaycard Arena, which is the same area as Sea Life.
Its the skydiving and adventure centre that will be at the NEC.
I suspect that won't become part of the Merlin Annual pass entitlements.

The LDC at the NIA makes sense. This skydiving and high ropes adventure centre at the NEC? Less so. I can only assume that the NEC want these sorts of attractions and Merlin have come forward to provide them.

:)

Birmingham makes sense in general. Merlin have covered London and the NW quite well:

I can imaginenanother LDC in Leeds, or Sheffield Meadowhall, as Yorkshire is under provided with attractions. Bristol and Glasgow would probably work too.
