I have been thinking - if I were to ever become a billionaire by some sheer stroke of luck (like inventing the next big thing by mistake) I would want to buy a theme park.

The thing is - there aren’t that many in the UK - and which one would I buy?

I would really want to be able to develop the park rapidly - so land would be needed. I would also want to be able to be creative with rides and coasters. Being able to build a hypercoaster or large dive machine. Would you start something from scratch?

Personally I would be looking at buying a former park - aka Camelot and bringing it back to life. A good couple of water rides, dark rides and two large family coaster and thrill coasters would be in my initial 10 year plan.

I would also look to offer daily shows and street entertainment. To me they are theme park staples.

What would everyone else do? Where would you buy and why?

I would want something similar to Tayto Park that has a zoo, zip lines, climbing wall etc and plenty to keep the whole family entertained for the day. A few coasters and flats isn't enough these days.

There would need to be at least 7 or 8 good coasters, similar amount of flats, a couple of dark rides, a few indoor attractions and plenty of kids rides around the areas of the big coasters too and not just stuck in one area of the park like Alton.

It wouldn't be in the UK as year round operations would be a must for me. A billion wouldn't cover it.

    I’d buy an established park.

Strip the flats out, reduce staff numbers, reduce food quality, increase prices, stagger opening times, reduce opening hours.

Then I’d tell you all how lucky you are.

Been a billionaire you wouldn’t invest in anything that you may not see a profit. Just look how the Hard Rock Park turned out.

If you're a billionaire you're far more likely to invest in things that definitely won't make a profit, because you can afford to!

Even the sweetest looking investment can turn sour. I'm not sure I'd want to buy a park, but I'd certainly visit a few more.

Is there not one partially built there that could be bought cheap. 'Three Flags' as it's only half built.

Anyone else remember that South Park episode where Cartman buys his own park so he can have it all to himself...only to need people coming in to sustain and ends up being busy anyway

Camelot and do a proper job.
Two thrill coasters, the rest aimed at families.
Booking only, so allowed to use the charnock services junction.
Holidays, school trips and weekends only, permanent staff, mainly students and semi retired.
Could be done well, but it would be about a century before it went into the black!
That would be my half a billions worth.
The wife would drink the rest.

If I had the money, I wouldn't purchase a theme park, but I would buy a big enough property and build my own theme park in the back garden and have my own private theme park, all my own favourite rides without the queues :)

My back garden themepark will solely be for my own personal enjoyment of the rides (no children will be involved o_O )

That's just the sort of thing you would say, if you were trying to keep your big come-back a secret....
