I wouldn't say overrated, it's more of a damning statement that in the past 24 years the UK has failed build any rides that come close to it in its overall quality.

Er...we waited for the front row as it was a quiet day.
Operations and throughput are obviously factors, but it simply isn't as popular as it was, nothing like.

El Toro is, in my opinion, one of the best rollercoasters in the world. However if soemone rode it and didn't think it was as great as everyone else they might say that it is overrated. Does that mean it is overrated though? Probably not.

It all comes down to personal opinion. Nemesis is undoubtedly a great coaster, that is a fact, but just how great is a matter of opinion. I probably don't rate it quite as highly as some others, but it is still great!

    :)

People have different tastes in ride experience so your opinion is perfectly valid... But surely you can appreciate why others rate it highly?

I think The Smiler is average, but lots of people absolutely love it and I completely get that.

Or Kumba at BGT, again its not my cup of tea but on the whole its clear to see why its so popular with enthusiasts.

Edit to add: Agree Montu is an incredible coaster too due to its length, but Nemesis is far more intense and a quarter of the size

He's reportedly done 50 rides in a single day!

Me I could only see myself trying that on Wickerman or nemesis.

Nemesis is far from over rated.

It’s excellent even now but there are better coasters out there but there aren’t 20+ years old.

I think the reason it’s not so popular on park these days Is simply down to its age. Everyone has done it

As much as I like The Swarm (probably more than most people), I think the three things that Nemesis has going in its favour in this particular case are the tight restrictions that it was built under (which make the following two points all the more impressive), the incredible landscaping/area interaction, and the immense punch it packs.

The Swarm has a few moments of intensity and interactions with a couple of props, but the area interaction is nowhere near what it could have been and it's generally quite tame in terms of force.

From a visual design and narrative perspective, I also think the Nemesis alien is a far more original and interesting creation than the (admittedly cool-looking) Swarm aircraft, mostly for how it uses perspective, size and an amalgamated anatomy to confuse guests as to what it actually is.

I don't know why this topic exists or whey we are debating it?

Whether Nemesis is the best coaster or not, the most popular or not, has the biggest queues or not, is people favourite coaster or not, all of which are completely irrelevant.

In today's world, trends will come and go all the time. Better and newer things will come along. However, what you currently think of Nemesis, it will all ways be a classic and no one can't take that away.

Its perhaps the one ride that gets international tourists into the park.

The topic exists because dippy opened his big tyke gob in the first place.
...but that is allowed, this is a theme park based discussion site, and the topic is relevant and being reasonably discussed.

It is why quite a lot of us visit the website on a regular basis royjess.;)

I know a few Americans who have ridden it and prefer it to any of the inverts in the s
States. They were blown away by the setting.

We've become used to it but imagine rocking up to FV for the first ever time and seeing it. Especially since it's station makeover. It would blow your socks off.

The GP in the UK tend to prefer Smiler which doesn't shock me. Its not a patch on Nemmy though for me. Far too rough towards the end but very good up to that point.

I've ridden about 14/15 inverts and Nemmy is still number 1 with Montu and Black Mamba close behind.

I'm sure 'The Legend' as he calls himself has ridden many an invert and he describes Nemesis as his "favourite inverted roller coaster in the entire world"

I think this goes some way to summing up what effect Nemesis has had on the British people and society over the last 24 years - the fact that it's in a TV programme with no explanation of what it is

But I think Charlie Brooker who wrote it hasn't been to AT for a while! :D:rolleyes:

Ha! Yes but if you read my comments that appeared to spark this very thread . . .

    https://towersstreet.com/talk/threa...ouble-launch-coaster.3691/page-98#post-222734

you will see that I was actually replying to others who had already mentioned Nemmy. For the record, I didn't bash Nemmy per se, in fact as I said, I respect it at least as an impressive feat of design & engineering, its just far from the type of coaster I prefer, ie one where your view doesn't consist of staring at the seat hanging down in front of you. As @rob666 is fully aware, I sadly have not been blessed with an iron stomach, in fact as I get older my tolerance for inversions seems to have nosedived. But to be fair on my good self, I did ride Nemmy right after Galactica with VR, so no wonder I needed to sit down afterwards. For me a roller coaster is about far more than just being flung upside down repeatedly, which is why I hate The Smiler but love Wickerman. There are things I like about Nemmy, if I'm on the front row anyway, such as the helix, the vertical loop, and the brake run! Its certainly not one I could repeat ride, but I appreciate that I'll be in a minority here!

Fair enough, it could have been other 4 letter words. Really I was explaining my stance on Nemmy for those who hadn't seen my comment in the Icon thread. ;)

Riding Nemesis on a school trip to Alton Towers in 1995, the year after it opened, was the start of my love for coasters. After queuing 4 hours to ride it that day, my mind was blown.

I live down on the south coast, so only get to go back to Alton every once in a while but every time I go back and ride Nemesis I find it just as good. It really has stood the test of time, for me at least.

I don't think it's overrated. Considering it's age and the technological advances since it opened, the fact that it still polls so high and is respected by enthusiasts from all over the place is proof of that.
