Finnish park Linnanmäki are building something new for 2014, as they've announced via this Instagrammy Facebook photo...

All they're saying is that it'll be announced in the spring, so presumably this'll get a summer opening. :)

Sorry for resurrecting this topic, but as this is our only Linnanmäki thread, I decided to put this here. The park has recently announced that Vonkaputous (I think that's how you spell it?) closed at the end of the 2017 season in order to make way for future developments. For those that don't know, Vonkaputous was one of only 2 Premier liquid coasters ever built, the other being Buzz Saw Falls at Silver Dollar City (the ride that later turned into PowderKeg). So, what could be replacing this? Well, earlier this year, some of you guys may remember that S&S revealed some new concepts. One of which was an extended version of GaleForce at Playland's Castaway Cove containing multiple launch tracks and other elements like a drop track. Well, the video of that concept looked as though it was built in the Vonkaputous site in No Limits, so that is the current rumour as to what could be replacing Vonkaputous. What do you guys think should replace Vonkaputous? I think that this will be a good fit, but I'm not sure if I trust S&S not to mess this up after GaleForce's multiple track problems.

Sorry for double posting, but Linnanmäki have announced that they are to receive an LSM launched roller coaster in 2019. They have stated that the ride will be 52m (170.6ft) tall, but nothing else is known. Here's an RCDB link: https://rcdb.com/16138.htm
The interesting part, however, is that people no longer think that the ride is the S&S proposal, as First Drop Magazine states that the ride is an Intamin. So, a lot of people think that the ride will be similar to Soaring with Dragon at Wanda Hefei, but smaller:

This just took a very interesting turn...

Can't post a link right now, but Linnanmaki have announced Taiga for 2019! It will be an Intamin coaster at 52m high, 1104m long with 2 launches and 4 inversions reaching 106km/h! Sounds amazing! :)

Oh my!

Linnanmäki Amusement Park, in Helsinki, Finland, announces their biggest roller coaster project ever: Taiga is Getting Ready to Launch!

Something exciting has been brewing at Linnanmäki Amusement Park during the past winter. The amusement park has been posting teasers in the social media implying that “Taiga is in the air”.

It is finally time to announce that a spectacular roller coaster is arriving at Linnanmäki in 2019!

“We are very excited to finally announce that Linnanmäki is making its greatest ride project ever in co-operation with ride manufacturer Intamin. This most unique high-profile launch coaster can be described as a coaster enthusiasts’ dream”, explains Pia Adlivankin, Managing Director of Linnanmäki with great excitement.

This new ride will have a top hat height at 52 meters, Finland’s longest track length of 1104 meters and a furious maximum speed of 106 km per hour. In addition, this new coaster will have two launches and four inversions.

Intamin is a European coaster manufacturer with the largest number of launch coasters in operation all over the world.

”It was an easy choice to select Intamin as our ride provider, since they had the most creative layout suggestion for our challenging terrain. We are truly satisfied with our biggest ride acquisition ever” Anssi Tamminen, Technical Director of Linnanmäki comments on the project.

Linnanmäki expects this ride to be one of the most exciting rides in Europe.

”This coaster will impress everyone. The final layout design phase was a true collaborative effort with Linnanmäki, and we were able to come up with a roller coaster which will set new standards not only in Finland but in the whole Northern Europe and even beyond”, Intamin’s Executive Vice President Sascha Czibulka proudly explains.

This fierce new roller coaster, Taiga, will be launched during the 2019 season.

Going to have to get myself over to Finland!

:)

Seems like a bit of a hybrid between Taron and Maverick. Very exciting news!

Fantastic stuff. Should make the park slightly more worthwhile, as it stands it's the worst of the three major Finnish parks (Power Park being the best bizarrely!)

Um... er... wow. I don't think many people were expecting this! I was hoping for something like Taron, and I'm glad it looks to be like Taron! Taiga looks fantastic, and it should really boost Linnanmäki's profile among enthusiasts! I think that this is just the start of great things to come at Linnanmäki!

A new teaser of the ride has been released by the park:

Looking good! Some funky looking inversions there.

:)

Intamin Vice-President Sascha Czibulka and Ride Designer Camiel Bilsen spoke with me at the recent IAAPA European Attractions Show, in Amsterdam. I spoke to Sascha and Camiel about Taiga at Linnanmäki as well as launch coasters in general and how the technology of those has evolved over time;

Very good! Gives me Icon VIBES with a touch of Helix thrown in there, even though this is an Intamin and not a Mack!
