I think considering it’s age Nemesis for most guests is lower down the “must do” category and gets few (non-geek) re-rides and lower fast track sales. It also has a consistently decent throughput compared to other coasters on park. So lower queues. You also have to remember FV has had no real new rides for years (excluding Sub-terrible which no longer operates), so there isn’t a huge draw in FV to get guests to come along and it’s the most distant part of the park to visit. I suspect if something new opened up in that area Nemesis and Galactica would get more footfall.

    It’s still popular enough.

It's crazy to think that a coaster that's 26 years old this coming season is still arguably the best coaster in the UK.

A lot of people said Icon had topped it when it first opened but I see opinions already started to change on that now the hype had died down. Nemmy is simply incredible how it's kept that number 1 status so long. Only an RMC can knock it off it's top spot now for me. They've tried mostly everything else and still haven't beat it.

I'd argue that a good modern hyper would also be worthy of knocking Nemesis off too, whichever manufacturer would make it (B&M, Intamin, Mack or maybe even Vekoma are plausible options!)

But Rita has bigger queues though! ;);)

I still remember how much it blew our minds when we rode it on a school trip during our last year of school in 1995.

It's still the best in the UK for me.

In terms of popularity among general visitors, I'd guess that Nemesis is perhaps around the 3rd most popular behind Smiler and Wicker Man; it doesn't get the overall hype that those two do outside of enthusiast circles, but I think it's still viewed more respectably than something like Oblivion, for example (that never seems to have anyone waiting for it these days, regardless of how long the other queues are! I'll always remember when I went on Wicker Man's opening weekend; Smiler had a 90 minute queue with tons of people waiting, whereas Oblivion was waiting for people to board!)

I wouldn't say Nemesis is unpopular by any means, but I definitely don't think it's the star attraction at the park for most anymore, and I do sometimes think enthusiasts perhaps overestimate its popularity among general visitors.

In terms of popularity, Smiler and Wicker Man stand head and shoulders above the others. After the fireworks on the Friday I headed to Rita first and was the only person in Dark Forest for a while (without even trying) as virtually everyone ran to Smiler. I went that way on the Sunday night and it was practically a stampede. Very few people went to Oblivion or Rita.

    I did - above ;-)

going off topic but I think Oblivion has had its day to be honest. Real shame but it just isn’t the same atmosphere or ride it was in 1998

Could easily bring back some of the atmosphere to oblivion by restoring the original queue line videos back to their former glory with the full music and giving the thing a good bloody clean and paint. Full mist also working.

It's not Nemesis, it's the area of the park that it's in.

If Nemmy was beside the smiler or wicker man then it would be a lot more popular. FV is less popular than other areas of the park I think.

Nemesis is the only reason I go to FV as Galactica is a waste of time (for me anyway) so they need something more in that area of the park to bring the crowds there. They should at least try and do something with sub terra. Galactica could go and I wouldn't miss it, replace it with something more interesting.

    And replace ripsaw.

    your probably right
Sub Terra was meant to be that reason to come but they have written that attraction off. Shocking really.

the area has now lost two further rides, lost eateries. It just looks dead. Which is a shame for the best area in the park. It’s a shocking fall from grace.

there is a reason sw8 was planned there, and I suspect we will see SW9 fit into FV somehow.

I wouldn’t hold your breath on SW9 being in the valley.

How is the estate of similar B&M suspended coasters holding up?
I don't get the impression the estate is reaching end of life, the manufacturer is still trading and Nemesis remains a signature ride of the park. I can't see the ride going anytime soon.

If it starts seeing a lot of downtime, or the track starts feeling rough and needing retracking.... then you can imagine Merlin preferring to invest serious cash in a replacement.
My feeling is it will get to around 40 years and (assuming AT survives until then) at this point be retired.

As I said in my example, if nemesis is on 10 mins and rita 60 then rita at that time is clearly more popular as nemesis can't get through the same amount of people rita does in an hr, in 10 mins

Or there isn't as many people in FV yet or Nemesis has only just opened/had a breakdown etc.

Tiny Truckers has a queue of an hour, whereas Fury has 30 minutes.

Pph is 200 Vs 600, meaning that Fury gets through 300 in that 30 minutes.

    Which is deemed more popular?

If 1200 people entered the queue for both rides per hour (equally popular) for 3 hours, how many people would be in the queue for each ride be after those three hours.

    Hour 1 -

    0 people in queue
    1200 people enter nemesis queue
    1200 people ride nemesis
    Queue - 0 people

    0 people in Rita queue
    1200 people enter Rita queue
    900 people ride Rita
    300 people in queue

    Hour 2 -

    0 people in queue
    1200 people enter nemesis queue
    1200 people ride nemesis
    Queue - 0 people

    300 people in Rita queue
    1200 people enter Rita queue
    900 people ride Rita
    600 people in queue

    Hour 3 -

    0 people in queue
    1200 people enter nemesis queue
    1200 people ride nemesis
    Queue - 0 people

    600 people in Rita queue
    1200 people enter Rita queue
    900 people ride Rita
    900 people in queue

After 3 hours, despite the rides being equally popular (in terms of number of riders) Rita has a 900 person queue (1 hour) and Nemesis has a 0 people queue (0 hour).

Let’s just put Nemesis on a one train service and dust off the extended queue lines ay.

Oh well done Lurker, you just saved me another essay in round a round of circles.
Sometimes, everyone else disagrees with you.
But you still have the absolute right to your own individual opinion.
And keep going on about it.
    And be wrong.

It is a shame Nemesis could not be located within the core lands around the lake, but of course it would not have been the Nemesis we got in a different location - so thankfully it was not.
Where it currently sits, in an remote area with one other coaster and a flat ride (?) discourages passing traffic, and arguably the most efficiently loading coaster on park is not running at full capacity on non peak days.

The geography and planning restrictions at AT, and the way Merlin have decided to invest, make it unlikely to see the area suddenly offering much more to drag customer over there. An additional, exciting, flat ride would help though.

If Nemesis did go (not my expectation), the whole area, inc. Galactica would either close or need a bunch of new things to drag anybody over there.
Air and Blade (?) is not enough to keep that area alive. AT are not going to want to lose the donut and RCR profits from up there.
