Screamscape posted today about a few people being injured at Dinseyland Paris when an accident occurred on their steam train:

General Resort News - (1/4/13) Four guests were hurt at Disneyland Paris on the park’s railroad when a bolt connecting the locomotive and first car to the rest of the train snapped as it was approaching a station. While the train was only traveling at 5mph, the front of the train separated briefly from the rest of the cars, but upon breaking at the station the coasting cars caught up and bumped into the front half. About 40 riders were on-board at the time of the accident.

Four hurt in Disneyland Paris steam train accident

AFP - Four people have been treated for minor injuries after a wagon broke off from a steam engine ride at Disneyland Paris, the theme park and police said on Thursday.

The four, including a pregnant woman and a 13-year-old girl, were taken to hospital after the accident on the five-wagon Disneyland Railroad ride at 8:40 pm (1940 GMT) on Wednesday, a police source said.

The source said the accident occurred after a bolt snapped between the first and second wagons of the train, sending the engine and one wagon ahead of the others as they approached the terminal.

The three rear wagons struck the first section when it stopped at the end of the line.

About 40 people were inside the train, which tours the theme park, at the time of the accident.

A spokesman for the Euro Disney company, which operates the park, said the train ride was closed on Thursday and that the incident was minor.

"It was a small nudge," the spokesman said, adding that one wheel of the train had come off the rails.

The spokesman said those injured were out of hospital and had returned home or continued their stay at the theme park.

He said the accident had occurred at a "very slow speed" and said the train normally travelled at eight kilometres per hour (five miles per hour) when it was returning to the station.

Disneyland Paris, which marked its 20th anniversary in 2012, took in a record 16 million visitors last year but continues to report big losses after taking on significant levels of debt.

I saw that earlier, it looks horrific :( they must've been very strong to hold on so well...

I think that's proof of what adrenaline can do for you in an emergency.

Man 'critical' after cable car accident

Investigators at the scene of the accident

A man was fighting for his life today after a cable car accident.

The 52-year-old, from Totnes, Devon, was in a critical condition with chest injuries after the gondola plunged on to a mountainside.

He is one of four people who remained in hospital today following the accident at the Nevis Range resort in the north of Scotland.

Five people, including a three-year-old girl, were injured when a gondola collided with another, causing it to plummet 30ft to the ground.

A major rescue operation was launched after the accident on Aonach Mor, near Fort William, at 3.30pm yesterday.

It is understood that three of the injured were in one cable car and two were in another and that a number of the casualties had been thrown from a gondola.

The 52-year-old Devon man, who was airlifted to Glasgow's Southern General Hospital last night, was in a critical condition this morning with serious chest injuries, said an NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde spokeswoman.

His 24-year-old son was discharged from Belford Hospital in Fort William last night.

The little girl, who has a broken leg, and her parents were transferred from Fort William to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness.

Her father has "significant" spinal and facial injuries, said a spokeswoman for Belford Hospital.
There were no details on the mother's injuries but she was said to be in a "stable" condition.
Injuries 'not life threatening'

Teresa James, a spokeswoman for Belford Hospital, said: "The injuries sustained to the patients were significant but not life-threatening.

"Lochaber is very used to co-ordinating mountain rescue. This was different, partly because it was during the day and usually in mountain accidents there aren't children involved.

"This was a serious accident but thankfully there are few injuries."

A Navy helicopter rescued the five casualties and 110 people who had been stranded in the cable cars and at the gondola stations.

The passengers began arriving off the mountain at around 7pm yesterday.

Northern Constabulary and the Health and Safety Executive have launched an investigation into the accident.

A Health and Safety Executive spokeswoman said: "A specialist investigator and two other inspectors are due to arrive at the scene this morning and begin their inquiry."

The cable car system is made up of 80 six-seater cabins running on a continuous 2.9-mile (4.6km) steel cable and after the incident the system was halted, leaving many people stranded in the gondolas.

Ilja Kultman, 32, and her friend, Susanne Talens, 33, from Ballinakill in Ireland, were holidaying in Scotland and were two gondolas behind the car which became detached.

"We just felt the whole thing swinging - it was quite frightening," said Miss Kultman.

Miss Talens added: "You don't expect to come on holiday and have something like this happen."

The two women, originally from Holland, were stuck in the gondola for three and a half hours.

Miss Kultman said: "We tried to sing songs, but we were quite scared. I am just glad to have my feet back on the ground."

The worst ever cable car accident took place in March 1976 and claimed the lives of 42 people after a gondola plunged 700ft to the ground when a cable broke in the Italian ski resort of Cermis, near Cavalese.

Spotted by Ride Rater.

Sounds like it just became detached and fell...

Just trying to understand how a collision between two cars could be possible unless wind was a factor?

Not meaning to make this more grim than it already is, but if you watch closely... They're not actually holding on, it's their neck/head that's caught on the restraint! Their arms are swinging! :\

What a nightmare. That's what everyone says when you're on a cablecar - what if it falls? You never envisage it ever actually happening though. Hope the guy's alright.

I was slightly suspect when I saw no date on that article, I believe it now dates from 2006. Sam, we're almost as bad as those people that post the Muslim day at Alton Towers article years later...

You've succeeded in making me feel more sick than I did when I originally watched the video... :(

It only takes one accident for people to really be put off rides.

Unfortunately, since ride accidents are rare in comparison to say, car accidents, they become more prominent on the news and what with how the press behave this gives out a negative image to the public.

Oh my god! I used to work at the Lecht Ski Centre, and I used to operate that Chairlift! Not surprised really, it was only a matter of time before something like this happened, the whole place is a death trap... ::)

It's lucky to be honest that it's not a very tall chairlift, imagine if the one at towers derailed! Or Heights Of Abraham!

From Screamscape:

(2/18/13) I've only seen a few reports online so far, mostly from Twitter searches, but it seems that a Tram may have somehow caught fire while going through Kong Kong 360º 3-D on February 16th. Meanwhile one of our readers did manage to shoot a picture afterwards showing fire engines sitting nearby afterwards, blocking the access road to the attraction.

Just spotted this on Screamscape:

Cambodia - (3/27/13) The news reports that a 21-year old Japanese tourist was killed while riding a roller coaster in Cambodia which derailed in mid-ride. She was riding in the front row along with a Cambodian tour guide who suffered serious injuries as well when the coaster car went “off the rails”. They were the only two passengers on the ride at the time.
The local police have detained three park employees and have initially said that they believe the accident was caused by a loose bolt. The park’s name is not given but it is located in Siem Reap Province, and there is only one park in that location listed on RCDB as Happy Land. They have two coasters (names unknown), both listed as from Sau Con, and both look like a death trap waiting to happen from the pictures on the site. Yikes… I love roller coasters but I’d have to think twice before trying out either of these rides. (Unknown Coaster 1 / Unknown Coaster 2)
Want to see more? Click here then… because this “open” park looks to be in worse shape than the now closed hurricane ravaged Six Flags New Orleans park.

:(
