Maybe, maybe not - the write up is identical to last years. Perhaps last year they had feed back from guests and actors that younger kids were too scared? So all they could be doing is reclassifying it?

Well you could argue that reclassifying it as a 15+ thrill maze would allow them to increase the fear level, but we'll have to wait and see.

I think Darkest Depths is almost certainly going to be bumped up in fear factor and intensity. Cant see Alton having two family style attractions, and in fairness, the last year many were surprised it was a family maze anyway.

Would be good to see TJ reimagined and given a storyline along the lines to CoS and intensity similar to Sub Species. But as mentioned above, the characters aren’t anywhere near interesting enough and the actual theming isn’t unique. Was certainly a last minute put together maze last year to work around Covid, which is why it’s a big surprise it’s back. Therefore if its left unchanged it will be very underwhelming

Got my maze tickets. Seems a shame AMT is still there, it has never been any good sadly,

I was under the impression that TJ was received well. Until now I've honestly heard nothing but positivity about the inclusion of this maze, except from those who had run-throughs during the day time. However, with the nature of it being an outdoor maze and no permanent fittings, I think it's reasonable to foresee layout changes and maybe some more specialised theming for the maze this year.

It was linked before but I recommend checking out Russel Watson's Instagram page, he posts a lot of interesting photos of the development of props used for past and present events, mostly scare maze stuff, and you can see there is still quite a few specialised props for TJ, despite being a budget maze: https://www.instagram.com/rp_watson_props/

Those photos do show off that actually parts of Alton Towers really do still put out high quality stuff.

I'm actually thinking that TTT;) is going to be, HoM with free sweets.
Anyway, its not impossible that Darkest Depths will still be a separate ticketed 10+ but is just being sold as a combined ticket to trick people into paying £30 for a bit...

I highly doubt that's the case. Mazes are either standalone or part of the combi ticket, never both during one year.

Those pictures of The Attic and Darkest Depths really show how good the set designs really are.

Haven’t done the Attic myself yet but from what i’ve seen it looks beautiful. A worthy replacement of ToTT, however mind you I wouldn’t personally complain with ToTT ever returning in some format. The 2015 version was awesome

Well it's very likely that The Attic's route will be slightly dfferent due to the ongoing restoration work on the stained glass window. Apparently the entrance has aready been moved.

Really hope next year we get SS:TEG back. Easily the best recent maze they've done

I've never experienced TJ, has it previously been similar to sub species in that groups get split up and that it functions like an actual maze rather than a walkthrough like AMT or TotT?

Well last year guests were sent through in their family groups due to social distancing, so bigger groups could be a possibility this year. Although the maze was quite compact, so they might stick to smaller groups or make changes to accommodate larger ones.

Our group got split up during the finale section but I'm honestly not sure if it's because they thought we were different households or not.

It's not like Sub Species though, it's all linear, it's clear where to go, and you normally stay with your whole group.

That's disappointing, I liked the actual maze element of Sub Species and so now it appears we don't have any mazes that have that this year : (

Yeah it's a shame, but the park probably planned mazes that could be Covid-safe if required. Fingers crossed Sub Species or a similar maze will return next year. :)

I'm hoping times before 3pm appear. I booked at 3pm instantly last year and then they added 2pm so my waits for 2 of the 4 mazes (AMT and The Attic) ended up being substantial. I usually get the earliest time slot to avoid any kind of queue but I'm biding my time this time.

If Thorpes teasers for Fright Nights are anything to go by it’s looks like they’re going all out for it. Begs the question why Towers didn’t do the same - of course it’s their 20th anniversary but can’t remember Towers doing much for any kind of Scarefest anniversary’s in the past?

I was literally thinking the same. While Alton hasn't changed their scare lineup at all, Thorpe is over there making an entire shop to tease Fright Nights!

Makes me wish Alton put in the same level of marketing.

From what I've seen over the past few years reviews wise, Thorpe Park's teasers are fantastic whereas I've heard a lot of people say the experiences fall relatively flat (2020 aside because of COVID) whereas Towers might not have the best advertising for it but they always pull out the stops in terms of experience.
