Quick question, does anyone know when traveller's day/family day was last year?
Off the top of my head it was the 9th/10th October, which did not correspond with Uttoxeter races (that was the week after on the Friday. So it could be this weekend, it could be next - or it could be neither...

Oh interesting, then I actually managed to unintentionally go the day before last year!

I usually try to aim for days that don't coincidence with school trips/holidays to try and maximise ride time, so I guess I'll just have to hope that it won't be too busy in the park on the 14th/15th.

The 14th won't be too bad with it being a Friday and also term time. The Saturday on the other hand I imagine might be mad busy.

As requested last night, could we keep discussion on the operational changes at the park now please? I think we’ve had enough posts on the rest of it now. Thanks :)
I don’t know why this is so difficult to understand. As per the post above, I’ve asked people to put the rest of the issues to bed and discuss operational changes on these days only. From that post onwards that’s all this topic should contain.

If you have issues with posts prior to that, take it to private message with the posters concerned, not as replies in this topic. Future posts not related to the operational changes on the resort will be removed.

I'm guessing a lot of concern - if I know anything about this forum - is the fact that alcohol sales are prohibited 😄
TBH, they have to be. I've worked a few traveller days back in the very late 1990's / early 2000's (i.e. before Towers park operations had got on top of the issues that some - note, I say "some" - of the travellers caused). Security inevitably had to close down the Tavern at some point during the day and the chaos ensued after that.

Now, Towers have pretty much got on top of how to handle what they think will be a travellers day. As people on here know, this involves a heavily increased security presence (i.e. the likes of ShowSec) and also police patrolling the park. And, of course, no alcohol on sale. As a result of these amended park operations, the day tends to go off relatively smoothly.

It's just a shame they have to pass the day off as "a family friendly day" - but they are stuck between a rock and a hard place here. Suffice it to say I would not want to be working in Guest Services on such a day as I would imagine there would be quite a few complaints.

Really speaking, we don’t need to discuss what travellers day is like on these forums apart from the operation side of things.

As for the actual customer experience on the day, people can just refer to the comments left by the public on Tripadvisor on these days.

Wow! As the original poster I can only apologise if I've upset anybody by raising this question in the first place. I have two young children that I don't want exposed to the sort of behaviour that has occurred in previous years, albeit by a minority of individuals. I wouldn't take my children to a city centre bar on a weekend night and I won't take them to AT on a day when there is a chance of the day being ruined by unruly behaviour.

I'm also sorry if it is felt that referencing those responsible by their social/ethnic grouping was unacceptable. I really don't know how else to ask a question relating to a specific group, without identifying them by using the same terminology they use to identify themselves.

My post was not intended to discriminate against anybody. I'm not asking for any particular group to be excluded from the park, in fact they can fill their boots and enjoy a good day out. I simply do not wish to be there on the same day.
