^I'm willing to engage in discussion, but not if you take it down to such a petty level (and especially whilst getting your facts wrong). It's like being in primary school again. Not worth my time, I can't actually believe I just read that.

Why do people feel the need to revert to personal insults all the time? I don't understand it.

Just in case @Sam actually does want to continue the discussion without unecessary attempts to cause arguments, I don't really think it's anything to do with preferring the smell of one or the other. Dope is generally seen (rightly or wrongly) as being 'worse' than regular tobacco. Disney don't want their parks to become infiltrated with the smell of something that has been illegal and remains illegal in the majority of places. I'm not judging people who smoke, that's not my place, I'm merely pointing out the reasoning behind this decision.

Are you? Or are you hypothesising what the reasons might be based on your own opinion - do you have anything to back your initial statement up?

Just to clarify, there were no personal insults "reverted to" in either of my posts.

It's not necessarily childish to point out that there is a certain hypocrisy in supporting SeaWorld's imprisonment of their killer whales yet condemning consenting adults for smoking a relatively harmless and soon to be legal drug (which I am guessing from your posts you have not experienced, and know little about).

@Sam I have not condemned anyone, personal choice is personal choice. It's not for me to tell anyone what to do.

You are right, I have not used dope nor have 94% of UK citizens. It is illegal.

Imprisonment suggests that whales born under human care would be better off elsewhere, we know that releasing them into the wild will lead to death so I would like to know where that place is. I don't quite see what SeaWorld's Killer Whale programme and Disney's new smoking policy have to do with each other.

@John Disney has been allowing smoking in the entire park and more recently in designated areas for decades. At the same time that marijuana is being legalised, they ban smoking entirely. It's not difficult to see that the two are related.
(Having said that I didn't make the link myself :p, I just saw a lot of the Orlando enthusiast groups pointing to that as the reason.)

I certainly did not see this discussion becoming so heated!

Perhaps, was just a quick google search so not always accurate. Point stands that the majority don't smoke marijuana though.

It'd be more believeable if it said 94% had tried it. :p And pot has been legal for recreational use in Californina for 2.5 years now, yet they are only bringing in the smoking ban at Disneyland at the same time as WDW.

As a vaper myself (after smoking for 25 years), I forsee many 'toilet breaks' on this summers trip to DL, where I go for a sneaky chuff on my discreet vape!

Nothing quite says Disney magic like walking through a cloud of second hand smoke; be it tobacco, recreational drugs or vape :).

I don't think that anything Sam said was unreasonable and there were certainly no personal insults. You started the discussion on what can often be a heated topic, and made the initial comment about the smell being socially unacceptable.

So let's all continue having a sensible discussion on the matter! :)

This argument would be a mute point if they were not imprisoned in the first place. That is the bit you do not seem to get. These animals did not evolve into the world inside a Sea Life park, they evolved naturally, in the wild. Had they not captured animals in the first place there would be no need for a 'Killer Whale programme'.

Ganja is absolutely more socially acceptable than you think. The fact it is slowly being legalised in different parts of the world is partly because it has been socially acceptable for such a long time. The social acceptance has been one of the driving forces behind its legalisation.

Also, let's try and stick to Disney's smoking policy rather than SeaWorlds killer whale programme or smoking in general.

    Thanks!

I've removed/moved a number of off topic posts in this topic. Despite repeated reminders from Rob this is still continuing.

The change Disney have put in place is regarding smoking and vaping. There is no mention of marijuana, the main reason for this that has been completely overlooked is because marijuana has long been already banned in their existing entrance policies for prohibited items since 2017:

    https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/en_GB/park-rules/

Now can we please get back to discussing WDW, and not turn this in a general discussion about the pros and cons of smoking, vaping or for some bizarre reason killer whales in captivity. Thanks.

As someone who likes a vape, having been a smoker for 10 years plus, I obviously think this is a bad move.

When I went in 2016, I always made sure that I was in the smoking areas of the park before having a vape. These areas were out of the way of other guests. As said already, this will just encourage more and more sneaky smokers or vapers in the park.

There is quite a distinct possibility that I will be one of them, but I will be in a discreet area trying my best not to affect other guests.

Shoot me down but if it's a matter of an hour round trip just for a vape, I'll do it somewhere in the park.

In my (admittedly limited) experience I believe smoking is more socially unacceptable in the US vs here, so it perhaps isn’t a surprise they have taken this step.

You only have to see the reaction to seasoned US Disney guests on a trip to DLP who are horrified at how many people walk the parks smoking to see how things are different.

I believe Disney introduced and enforced smoking areas in their US parks long before the likes of Alton Towers were even banning smoking in the queue lines. So they are just further along the road in this regard.

I suspect after the initial teething issues it will just become the norm to have to leave the park to have a smoke. I remember as a smoker back when they removed smoking areas in airports I was very put out. But you soon got used to it.

You've got to be honest though.....the idea of doing its a small world, Pirates and the other dark rides high as a kite definitely has its merits.

Disney have been removing smoking areas over the past few years, I understand that Disneyland only now have 1 smoking area in the Disneyland park which means guests have to potentially have to walk across the park to get to it and that hasn’t caused any issues with guests smoking in other areas. So don’t think will be too major issue. Might be bigger issue at the bigger parks ie Epcot and Animal Kingdom though.

I have no issue with the change but I am a non smoker.

There's been a tradition of LA teenagers taking acid at Disneyland since the 1960s...

As I said in my deleted post (a shame when the original cannabis post from Sam now remains unchecked without any sensible counter opinion), I think this is a terrible idea. There is nothing wrong with hidden a way smoking areas as long as people know they are there and have to use them. I once missed the message and lit up with my personal not outside the English pub, I was re-educated by a staff member in a matter of seconds!
I'm an ex smoker now and find it pretty vile, but why should I care if I can't see, taste or smell it?

If you can not smoke anywhere on property will they actually ban cigarettes? If you can't smoke them why take them in, and if you stop people taking them in they can't break the rules?

Anyway, do you know what's more interesting than new smoking policies? New rides! Here's a look at how Guardians of the Galaxy is coming along:

Looks to be coming along well! Might I also add that the building is massive; looks much bigger in person than I expected! I'd say that it looks at least 100ft tall!
