I’ve not seen that there’s been a thread for top 10 dark rides, and was curious what people’s rankings are.

Mine is the following;

1) Pirates of the Caribbean: Battle For The Sunken Treasure (Shanghai Disneyland)
2) Mystic Manor (Hong Kong Disneyland
3) Journey To The Center Of The Earth (Tokyo DisneySea)
4) Indiana Jones Adventure: Temple Of The Crystal Skull (Tokyo DisneySea)
5) Tower of Terror (Tokyo DisneySea)
6) 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea (Tokyo DisneySea)
7) De Vliegende Hollander (Efteling)*
8) Phantom Manor (Disneyland Paris)
9) Pooh’s Hunny Hunt (Tokyo Disneyland)
10) Madame Freudenreich Curiosities (Europa-Park)

Whilst I’ve been to Universal Orlando, I’ve not included any of those rides as its been almost 12 years since I was last there (pre-Potter), so it’s difficult to rate them.

*DVH is a terrible coaster, but I’m talking purely about the dark ride section before the coaster part)

  2. Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey (Universal's Islands of Adventure)
  3. The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man (Universal's Islands of Adventure)
  4. Hex (Alton Towers)
  5. Transformers: The Ride (Universal Studios Florida)
I will probably be able to come back to you with a top 10 after WDW in April.

For someone who loves dark rides, I actually found this list quite hard to fill out. My dark ride experience is mostly limited to Europe and some of the Florida parks (which I last visited 16 years ago) and I didn't want to override the list with just Disney attractions. So this is more like an alphabetised bulleted compilation detailing existing favourites.

I am really not sure whether that is a truly accurate represnetation of my top 10 dark rides. Gringotts is probably better than some of them but in comparision to Universal's other dark rides I did not rate it that much. Haunted Mansion at Knoebels is far from a state of the art dark ride however it is a perfect example of a traditional style ghost train ride.
 
Sorry to resurrect a very old thread, but I’ve been having a think about this topic a bit more today, and I think I could possibly conjure up a top 10 dark rides list now, after giving it some thought. So, without further ado, here’s what I’d call my personal top 10 dark rides:
  1. Tower of Terror (Disney’s Hollywood Studios)
  2. The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man (Universal’s Islands of Adventure)
  3. Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts (Universal Studios Florida)
  4. Transformers: The Ride (Universal Studios Florida)
  5. Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey (Universal Studios Florida)
  6. Test Track (Epcot) (Italicised because this one’s a little bit debatable as a dark ride, but I really, really enjoyed it!)
  7. Hex (Alton Towers)
  8. Frozen Ever After (Epcot)
  9. Flight of Passage (Disney’s Animal Kingdom)
  10. Pirates of the Caribbean (Disney’s Magic Kingdom)
  11. Haunted Mansion (Disney’s Magic Kingdom) (If Test Track isn’t to be classed as a dark ride, then I’d insert this in there instead)

Also- I hate flying theatres!!
 
I’m not going to try and put them in a top 10 order as it’ll change every time I ride one, so here’s my favourites in no particular order:
  • Pirates of The Caribbean - Disneyland Paris (vastly superior to Magic Kingdom’s)
  • Mystery Castle - Phantasialand
  • Star Tours - Disneyland Paris (post refurb I slightly prefer Paris version to Hollywood Studios’)
  • Revenge of The Mummy - Universal Studios Orlando
  • Fata Morgana - Efteling
  • Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man - Islands of Adventure
  • Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey - Islands of Adventure
  • Dinosaur - Disney’s Animal Kingdom
  • Phantom Manor - Disneyland Paris
  • Le Defi du Caesar - Parc Asterix
Some other honourable mentions for Hex, Midway Mania, DVH, Soarin’, Voletarium and Abenteuer Atlantis (whistles).

There are of course indoor coasters like Paris’ Space Mountain which I adore, but the dark-ride experience is secondary to the coaster on that I would say. Mummy at least has a dark ride section and proper show scenes through the ride.
