Welcome to the October 2014 news round-up of events at the Alton Towers Resort…

Scarefest Lighting - 2012

 Scarefest news

Preparation is underway for one of the most anticipated events of the Alton Towers Resort calendar… Scarefest! The Resort’s 2014 event takes place between 18th October and 2nd November with a number of changes afoot.

Mazes

Scarefest Fastrack Offers from Box Office - 20132014 sees a change to the maze offering as Carnival of Screams will not be returning. This means there will be no free maze for guests this year, with only the paid experiences Terror of the Towers and The Sanctuary available on park. A maze combi ticket is currently advertised on the official website (12/10/2014) as being £14 on the day (£11.20 with Annual Pass Discount) and £12 online (£9.60 with Annual Pass Discount), giving one run through of Terror of the Towers and The Sanctuary each.

The free-to-experience Zombie! Scare Zone will be back for this year, along with the new Scary Tales Scare Zone.

Altonville Motel Dining Experience

New this year is the Altonville Motel Theatrical Dining Experience, advertised on the official website with a ‘wedding reception invite’:

“Add to your spooktacular Scarefest experience this Halloween by checking in for dinner at the Altonville Motel! This immersive experience includes a two couse buffet dinner, arrival drink and two hours of terrifying, actor-led thrills.”

As we understand here at TowersStreet, the experience will last for 2 hours and will take place in the Resort Gardens and the Swiss Cottage within them, with two sittings per night at 5pm and 8pm.

The Ultimate Sleepover

Also new this year is The Ultimate Sleepover, an immersive experience within the Ruins where guests are invited to sleep on camp-beds in make-shift dorms, with scares provided between 8pm and 3am. A two course evening buffet meal is included, as well as a buffet breakfast and hot drinks, 2 day theme park entry, and a 1 day scare maze ticket giving entry to The Sanctuary and Terror of the Towers. As noted on the official site, toilet facilities are provided but washing facilities are not! Current prices are £280 pppn Friday & Saturday, and £240 pppn Sunday – Thursday. Experiences are available 23rd October – 1st November. A viral video was released on the Resort’s YouTube channel… are you scared yet?

General Scarefest Preparations

Around the park, Scarefest preparations are underway. Towers Street is expected to be dressed tonight ready for the event’s start on Saturday, and the garland lighting has been fitted in the usual places around the park. Generators have begun arriving on site, and Terror of the Towers has been heard testing finale music. With just 5 full days for the park to cobble together the rest of the preparation until the event kicks off, we look forward to seeing what’s on offer this year!

Lodge construction update

Groundwork continues on the Lodge development, and guests continue to peruse the show lodges currently on park.

General news

Park attendance

Guest figures have been fairly quiet in the past few weeks, as is expected following the summer holidays and prior to the Hallowe’en season. This weekend, however, has been busier with ride close extended to 5.30pm on both Saturday and Sunday.

Fireworks

The Burton Mail has recently covered the upcoming Fireworks event, describing the event as promising water projection screens, music, flames and lasers to light up the night sky on 7th, 8th and 9th November.
