Henry Hound

The former mascot of Alton Towers back in the 1980s/1990s, who descended from the carved stone dogs around the Towers ruins himself, Henry Hound was a mascot who touched the hearts of many young'uns during the Nostalgia Years. He always appeared nice and friendly with big enthusiasm, but of course he always forgot to wear trousers.

This resulted in the Great Cover-Up PR stunt of 1994 when a number of parents complained about the lack of underwear and clothing on mascots in theme parks, making characters redundant and unemployable. Sadly Henry Hound was caught in this terrible pants scandal and had to leave the resort for some time. Even his friends the Cuddly Bears had to leave, not just because of the pants scandal but because Haiwaiian shirts were no longer popular! OH THE HORROR.

Soon after 12 years, Alton Towers re-hired Henry for another season which happened to be during the Dark Infamous Phase of the park, where families and enthusiasts felt less keen to visit. Henry appeared on park for the 2005 season but after seeing how much the park had changed since the Nostalgia Years, he decided to leave the park on amicable but bittersweet terms.

Nobody exactly knows where Henry Hound has gone... Some say he's applying for a weekend job on CBBC, others believe he's moved to Japan to speak about Quantum Physics' connection to ducks, whilst a few think he's actually in a penthouse above Towers Trading.

Who knows...

His mascot pedestal now is in the hands of Alton Bear, who stands in as the cuddly character for the resort but do note he isn't as trusted as Henry used to be.
