It seems like I was wrong, it didn't fall off but the disk/platform snapped in half

Must. not. rubberneck :(

"Rubbernecking is the act of gawking or staring at something of interest. The term rubbernecking refers to the physical act of craning one's neck, performed in order to get a better view. Rubberneck has been described as a human trait that is associated with morbid curiosity."

That ride has restraints on restraints on cage. Saying that, I held on to the top of the cage last time anyway...

New challenge for my next visit to the Valley.
New Hallow'een special,
take the punters to the top of the loop,
"Release the restraints."

Never seen the ride in person, but reading that, it sounds like it was an awful experience (it would come across that way in the media though, wouldn't it). What got me with it though, was that they were only offered a free cup of tea. Don't know how to read that. Either the staff wrongly didn't take it seriously enough, or the staff didn't take it seriously because it wasn't that serious. There has to be more to this, lightwater valley have been far too relaxed about it for it to be something major.

Yes that was on MSN, FaceBook and in the newspapers when it first happened...

...the two women that was riding with him also got hurt, ones suffered injuries to her face.

I don't recall the accident being reported on national TV news.

Here are links just to some of the news report when it happened.

There's been fatalities on an Intamin rapids at Dreamworld on the Gold Coast in Australia.

The Australian reports:
Dreamworld ride: up to four dead at theme park

Four people are believed to be dead and another seriously injured after an accident on a ride at Dreamworld, north of the Gold Coast.

Sources said people had become trapped in a conveyor belt of a flume ride at the theme park.

Seven emergency crews are now Dreamworld, after they received emergency calls just after 2pm (Qld time).

Other news outlets are reporting between two and four deaths, believed to have occurred on the Thunder River Rapids ride at the theme park.

That sounds absolutely dreadful. How on earth do riders end up under the raft/conveyor belt though? :(
